Back to the Drawing Board for the Party :(

So much for feeling victorious too soon! I got the pricing details from the Seaport Hotel/World Trade Center and there%26#39;s a reason why their prices were notably missing on the online catering menus. One shrimp: $4.75! Yikes! So it%26#39;s back to the drawing board. The Union Oyster House is booked...another low blow.

I%26#39;m trying to convince myself that Anthony%26#39;s would be okay because the location is very convenient to most of our guests, who%26#39;re staying at the Westin Waterfront. Does anyone have anything at all good to say about it? Most of the negative posts I%26#39;ve read about it tend to stress bad - actually rude - waitstaff and long waits, but with a reception those things might not be issues. Their prices are fine, roughly the same as prices I%26#39;ve seen for private parties in other Boston restaurants, and they have a room available with a water/city view. Anyone have an opinion on whether I should give this place a chance?

Anthony%26#39;s is just fine. I often even take my out of town guests there for dinner. The food is good and it actually is relatively reasonable. The popovers are excellent. Wouldn%26#39;t hesitate for a moment. And free parking. You won%26#39;t see that anywhere else in Boston. The views are stunning, too. Go for it! And don%26#39;t let the doubters dissuade you.

Thank you so much Alan....

HI Susn,

Anthony%26#39;s is a wonderful, classy, vintage Boston experience. Unfortunately, the Smith %26amp; Wollensky%26#39;s/Morton%26#39;s of the Boston steakhouse world get all the accolades in today%26#39;s world because they throw lots of leather and cherry at you, coupled with an enormous and overpriced wine list and, voila, watch the great reviews roll in on Trip Advisor!

Anthony%26#39;s has always been about the food, and in my opinion, the food is great--especially the Baked Alaska for dessert.

When people mention ';rude waitstaff'; on their reviews I immediately dismiss it. Why? Because this is a person who is most likely dining out to feel coddled. I don%26#39;t need a waiter/waitress to coddle me, I need him/her to serve me my meal. Period. If he/she happens to be short with me I say ';hey, I guess that person isn%26#39;t having their best night. Oh well. They%26#39;re still getting 20 %.'; Enjoy Anthony%26#39;s. You%26#39;ll have a great time.

Thanks! I%26#39;m MUCH relieved and will make plans right away.

I also just made reservations for a party of 16 in late may celebrating my daughter%26#39;s grad from BC . I mulled over several possibilities and trying to get everyone%26#39;s schedule to choose a time proved more difficult..but when i finally called ...i was the last reservation taken!!!

I received some great suggestions from this board since i was leaning toward north end /italian initially but thinking about the number in our party and timing, we decided on Anthony%26#39;s ( at my husband;s urging!)

We had been there in Oct 2006, 6 PM reservation. It was a beautiful day and no matter what the service or price, the setting is just worth every penny. I think it is expensive and the food ranged from good to very good....no one in our party gave it an excellent. BUT even with that said, it is worth it. Especailly for celebrating a special occasion!

AND parking IS free as several have mentioned...and if you have ever tried to park downtown Boston, this also makes it a great choice!
