I will be arriving at the airport on Sunday and am looking for a nice wide open secluded beach to walk along as well as a good place to eat. Is the transit system up and running this early in the season? I will not have a car or moped. What are bike rental rates in general?

The mid-island shuttles aren%26#39;t operating until mid May, and the beach routes aren%26#39;t running until mid-June. Taxis are plentiful and reasonable. Beaches are generally accessible to the public, subject to possible restrictions near endangered bird nesting areas (mainly around the Jetties, last I heard) and grumpy looks from the occasional surf caster if you interrupt him. They should be pretty secluded in May. Bikes should be around $25-$30 a day - maybe less if you reserve in advance. See www.nantucket.net.
