Is it possible to get an ocean view (balcony) hotel on Cape Cod in peak season for less than $200 per night? If not, will I hate the Hyannis Harbor Hotel?
Ocean View Hotel on a Budget
I am a huge fan of new or updated accomodations on the Cape. Just can%26#39;t get into the knotty pine and grandma furnishings which are so popular here. The hotel you chose does look nice. However, I have driven to Hyannis a few times and just don%26#39;t know what the draw is to vacation there??? The main street area just doesn%26#39;t have the shopping other towns have and the one restaurant that stood out was Hooters!
I know it has a decent harbor and is convienent to the ferries but, it is just not the ';Cape'; experience I feel from other areas.
Had two local cable guys out to my property in Eastham yesterday and both said to each other,';the real Cape doesn%26#39;t start till after the Orleans Rotary!';
Unfortunately, can%26#39;t help you with other choices in your price range in peak season....hopefully, others can.
Ocean View Hotel on a Budget
Thanks Bchbum - there is no draw to Hyannis other than the fact that we can afford the hotel! Hooters? Yuck.
Maybe we simply can afford Cape Cod.... bummer.
On - Ocean is a deal breaker.
Crap - that should have read, ';Perhaps we simply CAN';T affort Cape Cod.';

Please don%26#39;t hold it against us that the prices are high. I wish they weren%26#39;t. Cape Cod is a largely a tourist based economy with a pretty short season. In order to survive through the winter, we have to make hay while the sun shines.
An area that is close to the Cape and will still give you much of the seaside summer feel is Onset and Wareham. In general, prices are going to be a little lower there than say, Hyannis, Chatham or Provincetown.
I took a quick look at a few places, and don%26#39;t see anything under $200, but here%26#39;s some to look at. (They%26#39;re on Onset Harbor, so it%26#39;s not ';ocean view';, but waterfront anyway)

All three look like they have balconies, I%26#39;m not positive though.
Hope you can come visit us!

check out www.colonybeachmotel.com which has some rooms that fit your budget, is directly on a nice stretch of beach and has some (if not all) newly renovated rooms. Dennisport is also a nice mid-Cape location.
If you choose this area then write back and I will give you some budget dining suggestions too.
Thanks for the sugestions!
HighSeasHarry - I definately don%26#39;t hold it against folks that the rates are high. Likewise I%26#39;m sure you won%26#39;t hold it against me that I live in a part of the country where airfare to anywhere is so ridiculously high that we have to skimp on lodging just so we can keep traveling. Ah well, we do what we have to do... (sigh). Now the suggestions you made were great, but if I make one more suggestion over $200 to my spouse, I may have to come to Cape Cod alone.
CapeCodCharlie - Thanks! I keep looking at the Colony Beach Motel. I couldn%26#39;t get a feel for whethor or not it was reasonably well kept. You%26#39;ve allayed my concern. I%26#39;ll see if I can get a reservation.

Another hotel option in Hyannis is The Anchor In Hotel (anchorin.com). This is a beautiful, family run place located directly on Hyannis Harbor with stellar, friendly service, and outstanding maintenance and housekeeping. While their gorgeous, newly renovated, balconied West Wing rooms which just opened a couple months ago are over your budget (around $219 in high season) you may want to consider one of their ';traditional'; rooms which are $189. You won`t have a view, but you`ll be able to enjoy the view from the beautifully landscaped grounds and pool area and the sun room where you can enjoy your breakfast. This is a great, quiet location too. You are withing walking distance to the ferries to the islands, and a short drive to many scenic and premier attractions on this part of The Cape. Hooters is hardly representative of all the wonderful, reasonably priced restaurants in the Hyannis area. If I can`t convince you, read the great reviews of Anchor In here on Tripadvisor.
I%26#39;ve stayed at the Colony beach over the last three years. Each January they send out an update . Last year they updated several rooms replacing walls and bathrooms, replaced the roof . This year they say they updated the other rooms . Call and talk to the people at the desk- Cheryl is the owner and Trish who handles alot of the reservations. Ask for the best newly renovated rooms . The very front rooms are ocean front Efficiencies that go quickly and are for long timers - I was fortunate and get a cancellation 3 years ago. the other efficiencies sit further back but have a center unobstructed view of the ocean . Motel rooms have a small refrig. and air conditoning . Some of these units have new bathrooms (ask for these) . The upper deck gives you a balcony (although not private - so some people may be passing by your room to get to theirs) There is a small micrcowave in the lobby area .
They serve muffins , coffee , and juice each morning.
Outdoor pool is heated with nice tables , lounges, and 2 grills for cooking.
Another value option you have is to stay in a small bed and breakfast. If you choose one that has fewer than 4 rooms you will not pay the state room tax and you will have access to folks who have local knowledge and can point you in the direction of non-touristy, value places to go and eat. Start by looking at local chambers of commerce. These URLs will get you started if you want to stay on the outer cape near the Cape Cod National Seashore beaches. www.easthamchamber.com www.wellfleetchamber.com
