Guidance to Boston

Thanks to whoever reads this and helps me:

We (2) are flying into NY late May 2007 from Oz. Arriving JFK around 6pm would like to get to Boston that night and stay for another 2 nights. I was thinking about a round trip on rail. Any suggestions re travel to Boston from JFK, flight v rail? Also suggestions for hotels in Back Bay? Also are there any packages that incorporate rail travel and hotel accommodation?

Many thanks. Ozzie

Guidance to Boston

I believe the last train leaves NYC for Boston at 7:30, so you would miss that. There is another that leaves around 3 am... check www.amtrak.com for details re: trains and train/hotel combos.

Guidance to Boston

You may wish to reconsider and fly in. It%26#39;s usually less than an hour flight, although you obviously would have waiting time at JFK. To come via rail, you would have to go from JFK to Manhattan to get to the Railroad Station. If you add the cost of the taxi to the train tickets, you are likely approaching the air fare. And if you are coming via an international carrier, which I%26#39;m guessing you are, they can generally add this on at less cost or sometimes it%26#39;s even free.

It will take you close to an hour to get to Manhattan (depending on traffic) and the train trip from NYC is four hours. Once you%26#39;re in Boston, the Airport is very close to Downtown. I don%26#39;t know of any hotel that offers rail packages.

Hope this helps.

I%26#39;d suggest flying too. It%26#39;s a short flight and... getting to the train from the airport terminal is a pain in the neck in NYC. You might also check the bus schedules. The buses run more regularly than the trains and are by far cheaper. GOOGLE Greyhound and/or Peter Pan. The bus terminal is a few blocks from the train terminal in NYC, both far from the airport...

You might check travelocity or expedia for packages from NYC to Boston including hotel. If you do the bus/train route, you might find a hotel deal on hotwire or priceline...

I%26#39;m normally a big promoter of rail travel, but in this case Alanm has it right. The transfer in New York is long and expensive (and you%26#39;ll probably miss the last train), so go for the flight to Boston.

There is the night train from Washington which gets to NYC around 3am and Boston around 7am, but that seems a really exhausting way to get here after a long flight!

Thank all for your responses.

I will take in %26#39;on board%26#39; and get a flight from JFK and return to NY by rail.

Best Regards

Ozzie
