Hi
I am planning on travelling on from a few days in Boston to Cape code in mid August, could you please help me with the following;
places suitable for a toddler and infant
pretty towns/villages to stay in
places to visit
was planning on booking the 1st 2 nights accomodation and then arriving on the day to towns that seem nice places to stay in, is that wise in the month of August, could accomodation be full? Also I am unsure from the maps I have viewed of the distance from say provincetown to the start of the cape, like Plymouth? would we be better off renting a place for a week and travelling to different towns on a daily basis. It might work out cheaper for us to rent for a week but I do not know if these places are a good deal apart, we don%26#39;t want to have too much driving to do with 2 small kids.
Also if we were to pick a base what place would you recommend the most in Cape Code in terms of nice places to eat, not too built up, nice beaches etc.
Also is Onset Village of the main cape region, would this be a place to base ourselves for a week?
Is a week too long to spend in the cape?
could you recommend other places after the cape within a 90 minute drive
many thanks
Cape Cod holiday with babies!!!
Mid August is a popular time to be on Cape Cod. Schools here still haven’t started up and families are enjoying those last bits of summer. Because it’s a popular time those who are renting hotel rooms, B%26amp;Bs and cabins almost always have ‘minimum stays’ in order to insure they are always full. At a hotel you might find a 4 night minimum stay, if you wanted to rent a cabin it would be a solid week (Sat-Sat or Sun-Sun).
Since you’ve got small kids I think, if you can spare the time, a cabin really is your best bet. I’d be looking for cabins in the Outer Cape. This area is mostly National Seashore and its home to (in my opinion) the most beautiful beaches and most charming little villages on the Cape. It’s also got lots and lots of warm, sandy bottomed fresh water ponds with shady beaches that are just prefect for small kids to splash around in (I learned how to swim in one when I was little). I’m a big fan of Wellfleet as far as pretty towns and villages go but all those towns up there are charming and you almost can’t go wrong.
But before I get too carried away selling you on the surrounding area (it%26#39;s perfect - you%26#39;ll have the best time) I think the first order of business is to rent that cabin. Time is really of the essence and places are filling up fast and the bargains are just about gone. I rented my little cabin through www.weneedavacation.com (back in February) but there are lots of other nice websites out there. You also might want to consider getting in touch with a travel agent to help you book. I’ve never done that before but I’m really familiar with the area – since time is so short it might be a good idea to have a professional on your side.
