best way into Copely Squarey area?

Coming to Boston for first time in June. After booking a hotel in what we thought was right in Back Bay/Copely Square we found out that the Roundhouse Suites in 891 Massachussets Avenue was actually quite far out from the main part of that area - what is the best way to get in and out to Copely Square and anyone know of any good places to eat near the Roundhouse Suites?

Hi,

The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle in to downtown Boston. If you have a car and want to drive into Copley, then head down Mass Ave into the South End area and take a right on to Tremont. Follow Tremont for a bit and take a left onto Dartmouth Street. Dartmouth will take you right into Copley Square.

Someone on these boards was dogging Dorchester. This is in the same category as Dorchester, in my opinion. It%26#39;s a rough area.

It%26#39;s a mixed sort of neighborhood. Not a good place to go walking. There are very nice brownstones owned by rich people and then there%26#39;s the line to the homeless shelter, the jail with its big ';If you broke the law, you%26#39;d be home now'; sign, the traffic, the meth clinic and the old City Hospital with ambulances, etc.

My advice: don%26#39;t go back to the hotel late at night unless by cab and dont%26#39; go wandering the neighborhood.

I don%26#39;t mean to be down on the neighborhood. I%26#39;ve visited friends at Rosie%26#39;s Place, a women%26#39;s shelter not far from there and spent a good deal of time walking around there for that and when a friend was at BU Medical Center. There are lovely little streets full of gorgeous, well-kept brownstones, but that%26#39;s not the only flavor of that neigborhood.

There%26#39;s a lineup for the bus that takes people out to the Long Island Shelter. The ambulances are at all hours of the day and night. That hospital has one of the best trauma units: all the stabbings/gunshot cases go there. It%26#39;s a neighborhood that has undergone great gentrification, but it%26#39;s right at the borderline between the more gentrified parts and the more industrial Newmarket district.

The last time I was at the McDonalds there, a homeless man went table to table asking for money. That can happen anyplace downtown too, i agree...

You can check the reviews on TripAdvisor to see how people liked staying there. I%26#39;m sure it can be fine. I would just not go wandering towards the more industrial area; instead walk straight back up Mass Ave towards town.

Thanks for all the advice - I suppose there are not so nice areas everywhere - even here in Scotland! We will endeavour to go by cab when venturing out of the hotel - if we dont get mugged in the hallway first!

It should be fine--between the free shuttle and the availability of cabs. It%26#39;s not the worst part of Boston.

Hope you enjoy your stay!
