Boston Whale Watching

I am spending five nights in Boston early September prior to a tour of Cape Cod and New England. I am keen to go Whale Watching and also would like to visit Provincetown from Boston. So, I know I can do a Whale Watching trip from Boston Harbour and I can also do a day trip to Provincetown from Boston. If I caught the morning ferry I think it is about 8.30am approximately, to go to Provincetown, would it be feasible to combine the Whale Watch and Provincetown on the same day? Or, would this be too much. I would like to have a good look round Provincetown so I could always spend one afternoon Whale Watching from Boston, although it does seem as if I would be doing the same route twice as apparently the Whales are closer to Provincetown than Boston. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks very much.

I think trying to do both boat trips in one day would be a bit much. In addition, that would leave you very little time to walk around Provincetown. So do the whale watch from Boston on a different day. Yes, you%26#39;d cover some of the same route, but you would enjoy breaking this up separately much more.

Boston Whale Watching

Hi,

There are two boats to P-town from Boston. The ';slow'; boat takes 3 hours, leaves you in P-town for 3 hours, and then back home again.

The ';fast'; boat takes 1 1/2 hours, and has a few trips per day, so it%26#39;s more flexible.

However, most of the whale watch tours I have been on, were half-day affairs, and I agree that it%26#39;s just too much to do all in one day.

Hi Alanm and Beantownman

Thank you for replying to my post. I tend to agree with both of you, to do the Whale watch and Provincetown in one day seems to be a bit much. I will probably do the Whale Watch the day after I arrive and then Provincetown a day or two later.

Thanks again.

Not that I would want you to be rushed, but you could take an 8am ferry to Provinctown, arriving 9-30am. Whale watch at 10am, should be back by 2pm. Leave on the 7-30pm ferry (or there is an 8-30pm ferry with another company. This would necessitate two one-way tickets, which are more expensive than 1 round trip).

Hi Avalonshadow

Now you have got me thinking.! If I get the early boat and it gets in at 9.30am and the Whale watch boat leaves at 10.00am does it leave from the same dock as the Boston ferry comes in at? Are these ferries ususally on time and will I have enough time to get from one boat to the other? If I could do this then and catch a late boat back to Boston then maybe I would have enough time to do both trips in one day. It%26#39;s no problem for me to get an early ferry as I like to be up and about early anyway.

I will have a look at the ferry websites and maybe see what I feel like when I get to Boston and decide what I want to do then.

I have read somewhere that when booking the round trip from Boston to Provincetown you can book the Whale watch at the same time, is this correct?

Thanks.

I would suggest taking a deep breath and think about trying to run from one boat to another, just to squeeze that into one day. You sure you really want to put yourself through that??

No, I don%26#39;t now you come to mention it. Like I said I think I will wait until I get there and see! Maybe if I do the Whale watching from Boston if will be a nice way to spend an afternoon!

Just be educated on the whale watching trips your are looking at. The ';Stellwagen bank'; which is the area where the whales feed strectches for hundreds of miles off the coast running North and South. Since Provincetown already juts out so far, getting to the whale feeding grounds is quick. You don%26#39;t have to go far at all to see whales. From Boston, make sure you are on a fast ferry because not only do you have to get out of the harbor you then have to go miles off shore to reach the bank.

we went whale watching from Provincetown. I agree that combining the boat from Boston with the whale watching trip is too much. We hired a car round cape cod for a week and arrived at p early.

Chance to have a good look look round, park - not many spaces later in the day, and have something to eat.

Half day whale watching - fantastic experience - lots of whales when we went.

ENJOY
