Honeymoon City & Beach

My Sister is planning honeymoon for late August /early September. Looking to go to Boston %26amp; then hoping to find a nice resort area near by with nice hotel near beach.

Could anyone give any advice on any areas that would have nice hotels on or near beach with pool %26amp; nice restaurants.

Thanks

All help appreciated

Honeymoon City %26amp; Beach

Some areas to look into include, of course, Cape Cod. There are lots of different areas and place there. Then there%26#39;s Newport, Rhode Island, which is very resort oriented and has a nice town with mansions to view. In northern Massachusetts, there are the sea towns of Rockport and Newburyport, which both have nice centers, beautiful views and interesting things to see, but really are not resort-oriented. This hopefully will get you started!

Honeymoon City %26amp; Beach

I%26#39;m not very familiar with what%26#39;s available in New Hampshire %26amp; Maine, but Massachusetts %26amp; Rhode Island don%26#39;t have all that many beachside hotel resorts where you%26#39;l find accommodations with a pool, spa, restaurant/lounge on the premises. And the ones I know of which come closest to that vision are, frankly, not worth the $$$ imo ... e.g., the Chatham Bars Inn %26amp; the Wequassett Inn on Cape Cod.

Are they willing to be more flexible: e.g., would a more motel-like property -- or an inn/B%26amp;B be acceptable, is it OK if there is no restaurant on premises, must there be a pool plus oceanside location, is it important to them to be in a town with lots of nightlife? Last, but not least, what kind of budget are they working with?

If you post back with this kind of info, folks can give more focused feedback :-)

I think I%26#39;d go to Cape Cod myself, especially at the end of the summer. Make sure she BOOKS EARLY, as it gets pretty booked up everywhere fairly quickly. She%26#39;d have so so many choices right on the Cape alone. If she wanted to be near or on a beach for instance, there%26#39;s the Winstead Inn %26amp; Beach Resort located at 4 Braddock Lane in Harwich, MA?? Either check it right here on TA or go to their site to see about it. They have B%26amp;B packages from May to September here to check out on their site:

In No. Falmouth, there%26#39;s a Resort that a few people I know really like and they go here every year faithfully, it%26#39;s the Seacrest Resort, right on Old Silver Beach. It%26#39;s located at 350 Quaker Rd. in No. Falmouth. They have excellent rates and good package specials all the time. Tell your sister to give them a call to see what she thinks, 508 540-9400.

Or check out ';Brewster By The Sea'; which is located at 716 Main St. in Brewster and it%26#39;s amazing and quite nice here:

www.brewsterbythesea.com

In Falmouth this Inn looks wonderful it%26#39;s the ';Inn On The Sound'; located at 313 Grand Ave. in Falmouth, it%26#39;s an upscale B%26amp;B that really looks extremely nice, the reviews on it so far seem very good:

There%26#39;s many many places on Cape Cod, just so many choices! Another one is the ';Ocean Edge Resort'; located on Rte 6A in Brewster:

It depends on where your sister wants to spend time and where she wants to actually be, and more importantly how much she%26#39;s willing to spend for this particular resort or Inn. It%26#39;s also at the height of the summer season when she wants to be there so it can get a bit pricey at a lot of these Resorts during their biggest season of the year. It%26#39;s also not just pricey on Cape Cod, it%26#39;s up and down the East Coast during the summer season.

The water is SO much warmer though on Cape Cod and plus it%26#39;s only 90 minutes if that, from Boston. It would be ideal if your sister stayed at one of these places and I%26#39;m positive she%26#39;d be quite happy at any one of them or others that get mentioned here. Keep checking back here as there could be other suggestions and ideas for her as well. Also make sure you read all the reviews on them right here on TA, they%26#39;re very accurate and right on the money with their opinions and reviews 99% of the time!

Thanks for all your help so far.

To answer some of q%26#39;s

Would prefer a hotel preferably 4 star, nightlife not a must just some nice restaurants closeby.

Pool a must and beach nearby

Hi - I live north of Boston on the MA coast, and I can%26#39;t think of a 4-star (or even 3-star) hotel up this way that would fit your bill. Cape Cod for sure - many many options with pools and beaches.

Then I thought of where we stayed for a wedding in June 2006 - The Colony in Kennebunkport, Maine, quite the picturesque area. She%26#39;s a grande dam of hotels, offering old-fashioned type rooms in the main building, and more modern ones in adjacent buildings.

The pool is huge, fab, and heated! The beach is a stroll out the back gardens, nestled on scenic Maine shoreline. Mah-velous views from the wrap-around porch. Great restaurants abound, most within walking distance. And, their full-breakfast buffet is included and delicious. Fresh-squeezed OJ!

Best of all, probably the friendliest %26amp; most accommodating hotel staff I%26#39;ve ever encountered. It%26#39;s not a long drive from Boston, and definitely worth it!

Hi,

Resort near Boston for late August/early Sept…. that’s a tough one.

When I think of going to a “resort” I think of hot humid weather everyday, white sand, and turquoise warm water, the Caribbean or Bermuda come to mind. I want to sit on a hot sandy beach, a waiter serving me those tall umbrella drinks, the music in the background and just getting lazy. And those honeymoon naps are always fun in the warm topical climates.

Forget about going to Maine, you can’t go in the ocean water in July never mind Aug/Sept. (They get the snow plow ready at that time). The mornings have that chill in the air and the evenings you’ll need a jacket. Don’t get me wrong, Maine is nice but does not fit my definition of “resort” especially at that time of year.

Cape Cod? You need to be specific on dates, August is still summer, the crowds are still there and weather should be good. Sept 3 is the end of the summer, the crowds go away, the traffic jams disappear (during the week), often the weather remains good and the beaches are almost vacant. But, having spent my college summers on the cape, it’s just not my idea of a resort area.

I thought the NoMo01 post gave you the best of the Cape as far as hotels and I%26#39;ve personally stayed at the Seacrest in Falmouth and it%26#39;s OK … I thought the rooms a little run down, but it does have some of the attributes of a resort. I’ve also stayed at Oceanedge and it’s nice, the golf is good, and the area is very nice.

I also thought the Winstead Inn looked great, I’d never heard of it. I’m putting that one on my list.

Depending on your sister’s budget, I would do a few days in Boston for a view for the city and see about a cheap flight to Bermuda or Florida for the resort scene.

Just my thoughts.

NoMo01 suggested Ocean Edge in Brewster on Cape Cod. I%26#39;d agree with that but some particulars need to be known. Ocean Edge occupies many acres of land with properties on both sides of route 6A, i.e. on the ocean side and across the street. We stayed in a condo on the golf course (not ocean side) last summer and it was lovely. Ocean Edge has 3 restaurants, pools and a golf course. If you stay on the ocean side you%26#39;ll be near the mansion (the original Nickerson mansion) and I believe you can get hotel rooms here. The rest of the accomodations are condos. By all means, they should include the breakfast package which is a large breakfast buffet served in the dining room of the mansion. Keep in mind that this is a bay beach which means no surf. In fact at low tide you have to walk out quite far to reach the water, but it%26#39;s very pleasant and peaceful. The surf beach, Nauset Beach, is a short drive away. The cape cod Playhouse is a short drive in the other direction. There is not a lot of night life on the Cape, but there are plenty of restaurants and some theater. The Ocean edge has a lot of ammenities.

Unfortunately MA does not have any beach hotels I would classify as true resorts %26amp; going up north to NH %26amp; ME means VERY cold ocean water - toe numbing cold!

The cape area has warmer waters but most lodging there is small B %26amp; B type or more motel than hotel (IMO)........although I think the Ocean Club in S. Yarmouth looks very nice, haven%26#39;t actually stayed there, but I liked the looks of it when I was looking around for vacations spots. Maybe someone else has actually been.....?

The White Barn Inn in Kennebunport, Maine is a five star inn and restaurant. It is a member of the Relais %26amp; Chateau accodomations and is walking distance to Gooch%26#39;s Beach in Kennebunkport. It is perfect for a honeymoon. It is also walking distance to the town of Kennebunkport. The Captain Lord Mansion in Kennebunkport is also walking distance to town and a popular honeymoon destination. There is a beach within walking distance too. The Old Fort Inn has beautiful accomodations as well where the rooms are in an old carriage house, the grounds are beautiful and so are the pool and tennis courts. The daily breakfast in the main house is gourmet. The hosts are very gracious.
