We are looking to park for free and get the T or commuter rail into Boston. We also plan to visit Cape Cod. What areas are the nicest to stay in?
Boston Suburbs
Hi,
';Nicest'; is such a vague term. Most of Boston%26#39;s surburbs are pleasant enough, if not terribly exciting. The ones that are closest in to Boston tend to be more urban-feeling, and that%26#39;s good or bad depending on what you like.
The Hampton Inn, in East Cambridge, is very close to the Lechmere Green Line station, and has free parking. This is about as close to downtown Boston as you can get, with free parking.

For a slightly more surburban feel, the Newton Marriott on Commonwealth Ave. in Newton, is a very nice hotel in a pleasant setting. It%26#39;s very close to the Green Line as well, and they have free shuttles to the station. Also, the hotel is right on Route 128, which you can take Southbound to Route 3 which goes to Cape Cod, so it%26#39;s easy to get there:

If you want to be on the South Side of Boston, there%26#39;s a very nice Marriott in Quincy, which is a city about 7 miles south of Boston. This hotel is about .5 miles from the Red Line Quincy Adams station, and it%26#39;s walkable, or there%26#39;s a shuttle bus. This location will be ideal as a jumping-off spot for a trip to the Cape, as it%26#39;s right off of Route 3 (one of the main routes to the Cape):

Generally, I recommend that people stay near one of the 4 subway lines (red, blue, orange, green) rather than the commuter rail. Commuter rail schedules can be quite challenging outside of rush hours, whereas the subways run frequently all day long, so it%26#39;s easier to deal with. Also, the Visitor%26#39;s passes on the T are only valid for the subways.
Have fun!
Boston Suburbs
There are 2 hotels in Brookline. I%26#39;ve stayed at the Holiday Inn, I wasn%26#39;t impressed. There%26#39;s a Marriott Courtyard, I don%26#39;t know how it is. Both have parking garages. And they%26#39;re both on Beacon St. in Coolidge Corner. The Green line goes right up Beacon. The Newton Marriott isn%26#39;t on the T line directly, but they may have a shuttle bus to the Riverside station.
