Leaving the Cape the Friday b4 Labour Day-what to expect??

We are leaving Chatham on August 31 to head home to Canada via Buffalo. Will the ';traffic'; be heading the same way we are going or would you expect it to be going opposit TO the Cape? Not sure if we should leave at the crack of dawn or wait till later in the day and overnight it somewhere on way back. Any thoughts? Thanks.

You will be fine leaving the Cape on that Friday....

Backups will be heading onto the Cape on Friday night or Saturday morning, although it will be A LOT less volume than the height of the Summer.

August 31 is the Friday before the Labor Day weekend (Labor Day is Monday 9/3). You will have a TON of traffic going everywhere no matter where you are heading. I would definitely rearrange my plans to leave either Thursday instead or ';at the crack of dawn';, as you so aptly put it.

Traffic on the Cape may be heavy, but if you get up to rte. 6, the off-Cape traffic shouldn%26#39;t be too bad. Everyone will be coming the other way. One unknown is the new interchange at rtes. 6 %26amp; 3 over the Sagamore Bridge. It opened late last year and has never had summer traffic. Off season it has worked wonderfully and there are never any backups leaving the Cape. Before the new configuration there could be miles long backups at the bridge when traffic was heavy. Don%26#39;t take rte. 28 to the Bourne Bridge! You will definitely have traffic problems on 28.

Excuse me, but ..... Canchick needs to drive to Toronto!! Please don%26#39;t send send her out on a Friday holiday weekend when she needs to travel the whole length of the Massachusetts Turnpike and New York Thruway and lead her to believe all her traffic troubles will be behind her once she leaves the Cape!!!

Heavy traffic isn%26#39;t a problem as long as it moves. You need to worry about jams, like getting off the Cape. Once over the bridge, there shouldn%26#39;t be any serious problems, except possibly the Sturbridge exit on the Mass Pike. and maybe but unlikely around Albany.
