T station parking around noon?

Hi,

Me, my fiancee and her sister will be visiting the Boston area at the start of August. We%26#39;ll be staying in Dedham, and driving down from Montreal.

Looking at the transit options, while it%26#39;s true the Dedham Corp commuter rail station is near the hotel, the fact we%26#39;re going to pick up 7 day Charlie cards for the T means paying an additional $30 for the three of us to roundtrip from there to South Station.

Since we have a car, we%26#39;d rather drive to a Red line parking facility and pay the $5, saving $25 a day in the process. I%26#39;m looking at any of the Quincy stations (esp. Quincy Adams) and Braintree.

My question - we%26#39;d probably get there around noon-1 PM (we%26#39;re usually in bed late and up late too on vacation), so are there usually a few spots that have opened up? Or are the parking lots all jammed during weekdays right up til evening rush hour?

And what about the Mattapan trolley - will it be running by August, and is it true that the lot at Mattapan (only 216 spaces) doesn%26#39;t usually fill up?

Thanks!

At noon, there might be a few spots in Braintree or Quincy---maybe someone had an early MD%26#39;s appt and returned? You%26#39;d be taking a chance, but might be able to find something. Quincy has a municipal garage a block from the T garage and that might be promising. I don%26#39;t recommend the Mattapan trolley at all.

At noon, you should be able to find a spot from Braintree, Quincy Adams, Quincy, Wollaston or North Quincy. If you go to any of these at 9am, forget it... noon... one car out of all of them should be gone.

Sounds good. I%26#39;ll just plan to take I-93 down to Quincy Adams and if necessary leapfrog to the next station and so on until I find a parking space. Though with over 2,000, I%26#39;m sure one will be open by noon, as you say.

Thanks!

Hi,

By noontime, you probably can find a few spaces at Quincy Adams. It%26#39;s a huge lot, and there%26#39;s also private satellite parking lot directly across the street. I%26#39;d try there first, before Braintree, which is a much smaller garage.

Thanks BeantownMan, good to know there%26#39;s a private parking facility option in the very unlikely event there%26#39;s no parking available at Quincy Adams.

How%26#39;s Boston at the start of August? Full of tourists? A lot of people on vacation?

It%26#39;s my first time (but not my fiancee%26#39;s or her sister, since they have family in Taunton and RI), so I%26#39;m really looking forward to it. Amazing that I%26#39;ve never made the trip before, considering how many Montrealers end up visiting Boston (and how many Bostonians visit Montreal)...

Hi Mike,

I%26#39;d say that Boston is as full of tourists in August as Montreal is. In fact, while you are here, I%26#39;ll probably be in Montreal. I%26#39;m planning a long weekend trip there in early August .

Sounds like it%26#39;s going to be great atmosphere, just like Montreal is (it never ceases to amaze me how much seeing tourists enjoying themselves somehow improves your appreciation for your own town)

Have a great trip!
