Mrs

We are planning a trip to New England in August. I have planned a stop in Mystic to see Mystic Seaport, in Plymouth to see Plimoth Plantation, a few days in Maine and then a stop at Sturbridge Village. Am I planning too much history? Are the places going to be too similar so that my kids get bored? My kids will be 7 and 8 by August and my older daughter just loves history. We took them to Williamsburg and Jamestown last fall and they really enjoyed it. However, I don%26#39;t know if three similar places are just too much. Thanks!

Mrs

If you%26#39;ve never been to Boston, I%26#39;d skip Sturbridge Village and spend some time in Boston (Freedom Trail, Swan Boats, Duck Tours....) even if it%26#39;s just for a day....and/or Newport, RI after Mystic, CT....

Mrs

Sturbridge Village and Plimouth Plantation are similar...

I agree with both posters. Schedule more time in Boston doing the Freedom Trail, tour Old Ironsides, take a Duck Tour.........

Thanks! I thought these activities were going to be too similar. I ruled out Newport because I thought my kids would be bored there. I think it would be a great spot for a weekend away with DH.

I%26#39;m originally from that area and I loved Sturbridge Village growing up. There are lots of things for the kids to do there--hands on activities and games. It would be an interesting contrast for them to see what the original settlers lived like at Plimoth vs what it was like a hundred or so years later at Sturbridge. We went several times on school trips in elementary school and high school and I always learned something new and had an enjoyable time.

I agree that Sturbridge Village is nice. If the kids really like history, then maybe 2 such things wouldn%26#39;t be so bad. I%26#39;d try to spend at least a day in the city. There%26#39;s a ton of stuff to do in Boston.

I agree that Newport would be boring for them. I have a childhood memory of being bored silly by one lavishly decorated room after another. zzzzzzzzz ! :-)

Thanks for the advice. I think I have ruled out Mystic. We will do Plimoth Plantation and then go to Maine for several days and then see Sturbridge Village on the way home. I was actually at both of these places when I was a teenager (many, many years ago) and they both made quite an impression on me. I think my girls will especially love Sturbridge Village.
