Family of 5 heading out east. We%26#39;ve got reservations set for NYC and a house in Maine but need help with Boston. What area should we stay in? Any hotel reccommendations or tips for priceline bidding would be appreciated. Advice/must see for our family with a 12,15 and 17 year old.
Thanks!
Boston June 21-23, where to stayBoth downtown Boston or the Back Bay would be fine. For help in using Priceline, check out www.betterbidding.com. Posters who use Priceline find that site to be very helpful. Just note--Priceline will only guarantee a room with one bed. Many people have asked for rooms with 2 beds and gotten to their hotel only to discover that they were given a room with 1 bed in it. If you say what price range you%26#39;re looking at, you will get lots of good suggestions.
As for what to see--walk the Freedom Trail, go to the observation deck at the Pru, go to the Public Garden and ride the swan boats--they%26#39;re unique to Boston. Maybe you would like to take a Duck tour.
Boston June 21-23, where to stayI would just add the Constitution to this list (even if you don%26#39;t walk the Freedom Trail), and either a one-hour harbor cruise, or I would move the Duck Tour up the list. You know about them? You ride an amphibious vehicle, learn a lot and hear jokes about Boston... then you end up floating on the Charles river for the last part. Seriously, all will love it. If you have more time, they would find the whale watches to be very special. You will see whales.
For the teenagers I would do the ';Duck tour'; and Quincy Market - great food and ';stuff'; to buy etc. Good people show. Good place for pizza is the Uno Grill on Boylston Street. Great deep dish pizza.
With three teenagers in tow, make sure you spend an evening in Harvard Square. Have dinner at John Harvard%26#39;s Brew House. Stroll through Harvard Yard. Watch the chess games at Au Bon Pain. Check out the street musicians.
I forgot to include hotel info. If you want some different hotels, try the historic Parker House, which is right on the Freedom Trail. Or the Marriott Custom House, which is what its name implies.
Thank you all for the information! We%26#39;ll have a full schedule. I%26#39;m still working on the hotel... The Duck tours sound very cool.
What thoughts do any of you have about us staying at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge?
If you go to the Hyatt Regency Cambridge, get a riverview room! My cousin stayed there and enjoyed it very much.
Hi Cathy,
I would not recommend the Hyatt in Cambridge. Although it%26#39;s a very nice hotel and has great views, it%26#39;s in an isolated part of Cambridge, not near any tourist areas, and not even near any T stations. You%26#39;d be having to take taxis everywhere.
There are many other very nice hotels right in the center of Boston, and convenient to all the attractions and public transit. The Omni Parker House, the Courtyard Marriott Copley Square, the Marriott Copley Place, Marriott Long Wharf, Marriott Custom House (great views from upper floors there), Clarion Bulfinch, Holiday Inn Select-Government Center.
Any of those would be better for you.
If you have sports fans with you, I highly recommend the Fenway Park tour. You learn a lot about fenway and learn some of the hidden stories of the ball park as well.
