Help!!!!! Ist anniversary July in MV

My hubby and I plan to visit MV during the week of July 11th. We plan to stay 5 days/ 4 nights. I am considering the Mansion House or Island Inn. This will be our second visit to MV. The last time we had our kids and stayed at the Island Inn. (would rather not stay at a B%26amp;Bs). We enjoyed Lolas which was adjacent to the Island Inn property. However, since we can%26#39;t stay through the weekend at Island,(they are booked), we might have to consider somewhere else.

During our stay we would like to visit either Hyannis or Nantucket for a day , have one day for the beach in MV , A shopping day in Edgartown, vist Blackdog in Vineyard Haven, and relax the rest of the time.

Please help with the following:

Should we bring our car over based the info above?

Will we miss anything by not staying over a weekend in MV?

(We would like to attend a nightclub, but it is not crucial)

Any advice on other accommadations?

(clean, romantic, not too pricey)

Suggestion for restaurant for romantic dinner on our anniv, night?

Day trip to Nantucket or Hyannis?

(what to see and do?)

Suggestion for nightly entertainment in MV

(weekday in case 5 days don%26#39;t include Fri or Sat)

Which beach is recommended?

Best place to watch sunset?

Thank You for your info/advice

Sharon

Hi. As a resident of the Vineyard I would recommend the following:

Do bring your car, but make your reservations soon as boats are already getting booked.

Don%26#39;t worry about the weekend issue as during summer on the Vineyard activities happen every day of the week including live music performances. Outerland, located at the airport, is the only real ';nightclub'; on the island and they have live music nearly every night. Other options for nighlife include Lola%26#39;s, Offshore Ale Company, and the Island HOUSE all of which are in Oak Bluffs.

The best public beaches are either South Beach, also called Katama, which is located near Edgartown or State Beach which runs between OB and Edgartown. If you%26#39;re willing to drive a little bit-it is a lovely drive-and pay for parking, the beach in Aquinna near the clay cliffs is stunning.

Aquinna and Menemsha are the best places to watch the sunset-the beach in Menemsha is a small, but very nice beach. Parking is a bit of a nightmare in Menemsha, but if you get there early and have some patience you can get a spot. Bring a bottle of wine or some beer and a blanket and pick up dinner at one of the local places-Larsens or Menemsha Fish Market for lobsters and clams, the Byte for all types of fried seafood. It is an island tradtion to picnic on the beach in Menemsha at sunset and everyone applaudes as the sun sets.

The Mansion House is very nice, but I would book soon. As for day trips...I%26#39;ll let somebody else chime in on those.

Hi, 2nd time. Did you get my PM yet? I agree with a lot of what the other poster said. And besides music, Offshore Ale has great food. Also, if you like ribs et al, try Smoke n Bones. For a really nice lunch, and a beautiful atmosphere, try Farm Neck Golf Course.

The Martha%26#39;s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce website has lots of info and a calendar of events that%26#39;s quite thorough.

If you decide to stay up Island at the Beach Plum, ask if you are allowed access to Lucy Vincent or Squibnocket Beach. You need to be a town resident or renting in Chilmark to get access, but not sure about if you are staying at an Inn. Someone else here may know. If you can, definitely get to those beaches - two of the most beautiful beaches on the Island.

I don%26#39;t live on the Island, but have relatives who do, and have been going there for 30 years. Feel free to PM me with any questions and I%26#39;ll be happy to help you out. It%26#39;s my home away from home and one of my favorite places on earth.

To trm1111.............Thanks for the information regarding Larsens and the byte. We will be going to one, I%26#39;m sure. I have finalized quite a bit since this particular post. Read my post titled Outermost, Menemsha, or Beach Plum Inn. I%26#39;m still waiting until the last moment, hoping to get some more comparisons on the three.

Magic........Yes I did receive your pm. Thanks for all of your advice. Oh yes, both Beach Plum %26amp; Menemsha Inn provide passes, as well as a shuttle to both beaches that you mentioned.

Still trying to decide which inn to choose. Today is the deadline.

2nd time, let us know which one you picked. That%26#39;s great about the passes and the shuttle - like I said, great beaches.

A great big thanks to all for your tips, ideas, etc.

I booked at The Menemsha Inn. To my delight we were able to get an upper suite (Carriage House). I%26#39;ve sort of planned our ';too limited :( stay.......here it goes.....let me know what you think.

We%26#39;ll arrive at The Island Inn(Monday) about 6pm, settle in, and have dinner at Lola%26#39;s(on the property). We loved Lola%26#39;s last time.

On Tuesday we%26#39;ll probably sleep late(tired from the long drive the day before) and then head to Edgartown for brunch, browsing, and shopping. For old times sake, we%26#39;ll have to revisit downtown Oak Bluffs. Later in the evening, we%26#39;ll get out the ole hibachi and grill outside of our cottage. (Hubby loves grilled turkey burgers). Afterwards, perhaps, we%26#39;ll check out one of the local clubs, or walk across to Lola%26#39;s for a little music .

On Wednesday we%26#39;ll be checking out, and on our way to Menemsha. We plan to stop in Vineyard Haven on the way to have lunch at Black Dog. Arriving at the Menemsha Inn about 1:30, we will probably settle in and check out the village. Our Anniversary dinner at The Beach Plum is at 7pm.....Dinner, Magical Sunset, Repeating our vows...sniff, sniff :)

Thursday is beach day......Lucy ??? beach first, and later in the evening after picking up a Lobster dinner at Larsens, and our own wine...to Menemsha beach for the sunset. I have to experience the clapping at sunset. Or, we might opt to skip the Menemsha beach experience and visit the Outermost Inn and have our last dinner there.

We depart on Friday and our ferry reservation is at 1:15, so we won%26#39;t have much time to do anything else.

After reading this it seems that most of our activities are centered around eating?????? Hmm...

Okay, guys.......what do you think? Did I miss any must dos or sees? I%26#39;m still open for suggestions, or ideas. Just want to keep it kinda simple and relaxing.

Sharon

Sharon, sounds good. I don%26#39;t know anything about the Outermost, but I do know many of the Larsens, including Betsy, who runs the Larsens in Menemsha. Don%26#39;t think you could go wrong with the lobster on the beach route, but that%26#39;s something you need to decide for yourself.

Didn%26#39;t see two of my favorite eateries on your list and will put them here just as alternatives. I%26#39;m not telling you to ditch your choices, but these could be backups - Offshore Ale House (you can eat there and they also have music at night - get the Gazette or MVTimes and see who has the kind of music you want to hear) and Farm Neck Golf Club - gorgeous setting, great lunches and fabulous Sunday brunch - I forget if you are even going to be there on a Sunday.

Have a great time.

Thanks.
