Each fall my sistas and I take my Mom on a weekend trip. We have been to Toronto, NYC, a cruise, PA, upstate NY, etc. This yr we contemplated Vegas but Mom has already been and actually wanted to return to NYC. For various reasons, I suggested Boston and it stuck. Now I am stuck. I thought maybe we could catch a show or POPS or something but it is sort of confusing to me from the calendars I have looked at. We will be in Boston (we finally settled on a date and I booked out air) the end of September and what keeps showing up as something she would really dig is Forever Plaid up in Beverly MA. at the North Shore Theater League. What I need to know is this - Do they put on a good show? Is it going to be a pain to get to on public transportation (no car)?. Is there something else in the city that we shouldn%26#39;t miss? JSYK is this doesn%26#39;t work out we will all be at the mercy of my sisters trip planning next yr and you just wouldn%26#39;t want anybody to have to go through that :)

Boston 'shows' HELP!!!
You can get to Beverly on the Commuter Rail (Rockport Line) on mbta.com. According to their website, from North Station take the Newburyport / Rockport line to Beverly Depot. From Beverly Depot it is less than 5 minutes to NSMT by cab. you can pre arrange a taxi pick up from Beverly Depot and NSMT. Cab company: City Taxi of Beverly. 978-921-1111
However, there should be lots doing in Boston if you don%26#39;t want to make the trip. Try Boston.com A%26amp;amp;E to see what%26#39;s happening in Boston or bostonphoenix.com/
Although the North Shore Music Theater puts on wonderful shows, I think without a car it is way too much trouble especially since you%26#39;ll have things to choose from right in the city. As previously mentioned Blue Man Group is fun, Shear Madness at the Charles Playhouse, Respect at the Stuart Street Playhouse, and Wicked will be in town as well. Check out artsboston.org and broadwayacrossamerica.com. for additional possibilities/
Thank you all for your suggestions! Decisions decisions. I also see there is a TIX booth now. Do we dare wait and see what we can get or would it be slim pickings from your experience?
Thanks again

My experience has been that there is ticket availability for Blue Man, Shear Madness, and Respect which all are smaller theaters so there really aren%26#39;t bad seats in the house. (Although for Blue Man, I prefer not to be in the side corners of the balcony). I would check out the artsboston.org website periodically so you can see what%26#39;s out there.
Hi Ima,
There is tons of good theater in Boston, and at that time of year, the fall season is starting up. It%26#39;s a bit early yet to know what will be playing then, but here are some websites you should check:
http://www.artsboston.org They have a pretty complete listing of shows, and offer discounted tickets to most things.
http://www.theatermania.com/boston Another comprehensive listing with some discounts
http://boston.citysearch.com
Also, make sure to check the Inside Pages section for the Performing Arts. There are lists of all the local theater companies.
I do know that a production of Wicked is coming to the Opera House that week, if you are interested in that.
I agree that it%26#39;s a little early for fall theater schedules, but I do know that most theaters have a sense of what they%26#39;re lining up for the fall. Though it may not be posted yet, if you%26#39;re up for a little leg work, you could always call some of the theater box offices and see what%26#39;s coming...
In Boston, try the Opera House, Wang Theater, Shubert, Colonial...
Thanks again for the additional input! I%26#39;m off for about a week so I%26#39;ll be sure to check on some of these things when I get back. Blue Man Group is available in their local area ( We are a scattered bunch) so that is down on the list for us. Thanks all again.
