Good morning Mrcheers,

Unfortunately you%26#39;d have to get over to North Station to pick up the commuter rail for Rockport. It%26#39;s the Newburport/Rockport line that you%26#39;d take. It wouldn%26#39;t take you long at all via train. Sit back relax and enjoy Rockport for the day when you get there, and yes, it%26#39;s well worth it. You shold check the MBTA site for their fare and schedule, look for commuter rail and it%26#39;ll list the Newburyport-Rockport line for you:

Have a great time, September is a really nice time of year to visit Boston and check out Rockport for the day on top of that!

As the previous poster pointed out, Back Bay Commuter Rail station won%26#39;t help you, but you can easily pick up the Orange LIne there at Back Bay to North Station where you can transfer to the Commuter Rail. (The Back Bay Commuter Rail trains all originate at South Station and go south. To get a northbound train, you have to go to North Station.)

The Rockport daytrip is a lot of fun. It%26#39;s about an hour each way past interesting scenery. In Rockport, the town proper is a couple of blocks from the train station.

Have a great time!

We did this journey just last week. We caught the train from North Station %26amp; it was a very pleasant ride to Rockport.

Rockport is a beautiful little town %26amp; I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll enjoy it.

The train system here is very easy to understand %26amp; follow you%26#39;ll have no problem connecting to different lines etc.

Have fun.

P.S Another trip you might want to consider: The Ferry over to Provincetown from Long Harbour. We did this yesterday %26amp; it was wonderful.

I%26#39;ll second all of the above, Rockport is a lovely town and a nice train ride. The one thing I%26#39;d add is when you come off the train and hit the main road, TURN RIGHT, I didn%26#39;t and spent 15mins walking in the wrong direction. But then I%26#39;m not known for my sense of direction, ask hubby lol. If you follow the road you come to another junction, turn left and keep walking.
