My husband, our 14 year old daughter, and I are flying to Boston for a conference in Cambridge in July. We are wondering if its is possible to get to either cape code or a ocean beach near boston without a car?
We are flying in on Friday evening, conference is all day Saturday and Sunday morning. We are thinking of staying until Tues or Wed. Any suggestions on what to see where to go?
Thanks.
Cambridge, Boston, cape code Questions
there are a few beaches along the commuter train in the north shore area, with details on this forum if you search for ';train to beach';. There is also a beach in Revere, which is on the blue line of the MBTA, which would take less time to get to than the commuter rail. There is so much to enjoy in the Cambridge/Boston area that can keep you busy for days, and plenty of people sunbathe along the Charles River and on a whale watch boat. Please let us know your interests and more details about activities can be provided. Have a great trip!
Cambridge, Boston, cape code Questions
The posting about Revere Beach is corrrect. It is on the ';T'; Blue Line subway. You can also take the ';T'; Commuter Rail to Rockport, a former fishing village turned artist colony that is right on the ocean. It takes about an hour from Boston.
There is a ferry that goes from Boston to Provincetown, which is on the tip of Cape Cod. It%26#39;s a cute interesting town, but it would take up a whole day to do that. Given your limited time here, I would suggest staying in Boston. Walk the Freedom Trail connecting many of the city%26#39;s historic sights. Take a harbor cruise - or - take the ferry from Long Wharf to the Charlestown Navy Base for $1.70 and get a free tour of Old Ironsides.
