Kittery through Kennebunkport Location for Night Over

Where is the nicest coastline area to spend an evening? Cost not as big as a concern as enjoying as much as we can in one day/evening. Will head to Laconia NH from this area too, if this makes a difference for the drive.

Hi bobkatevan,

For more info on this topic you may want to post it on either the kittery or kennebunkport forums.

BUT...

For what it%26#39;s worth, I did stay at the Green Heron Inn in Kennebunkport and it was above average.

Okay you asked on the Boston forum, I%26#39;ll give you an awesome choice....it%26#39;s in York, ME., check it out...

If you don%26#39;t stay here, you could have dinner here, it%26#39;s incredible, so remember it, it%26#39;s a ';good one';.

Another spot is The White Rose Inn located in Ogunquit, it%26#39;s really nice too and Arrows Restaurant for dinner! There sister restaurant is MC Perkins at Perkins Cove.

Old Orchard and York have a fair amount of honkey-tonk, which can be fun or annoying, depeding on your taste. I think Kennebunkport and Wells have a different sort of flavor... I%26#39;ve spent a lot of time in Old Orchard and York but not so much farther north. Someone else will have to comment on those places. York has a nice big beach. Old Orchard has loads of private beach (which is open to you if you rent a house up there) and a big enough (but crowded) public beach. Last summer Old Orchard was so full of French-speaking Canadians, it actually had a foreign feel. Every restaurant we went into, it seemed, the families around us were speaking French. Pretty cool...

This B%26amp;B %26amp; restaurant is actually in York Harbor not York Beach per say. It%26#39;s in an area a tad different than the York Beach area that the tourists all think of and go to. It%26#39;s quite nice actually and the beauty of it is? It%26#39;s really great all year round, not just during the height of the summer season.

Another restaurant that is really good up through there is ';Mimmo%26#39;s Fine Italian Continental Cuisine'; right at York Beach on Rte 1A along Long Sands Beach. It%26#39;s a restaurant where you bring your own wine. It%26#39;s nothing fancy, it%26#39;s got a very relaxed atmosphere with good cuisine, and it%26#39;s open year round. Some think it was much better 15 years ago, but it still gets quite crowded and all that to this day, no matter what time of year it is either. This guy%26#39;s cuisine is quite a lot like the North End%26#39;s! If it%26#39;s your birthday or any one in your group%26#39;s? You get serenaded at your table!

I don%26#39;t know where you are starting your drive or when. The NH coast is lovely and small. Stop in Portsmouth NH for an hour or so. Eat lunch at the Old Ferry Landing, on the water in downtown Portsmouth. Drive up the Maine Turnpike, you might want to get off in York Maine and actually meander along up the coast...York, Wells Beach, Kennebunk, Ogunquit , Biddeford Pool are lovely.

Get off the turnpike at Exit 36, of the Maine Turnpike ( I-95) and head for the tiny town of Ocean Park , founded 125 years ago as a Chautauqua community. Stay at Billowhouse www.billowhouse.com Ocean Park is only twelve miles South of Portland%26#39;s trendy shoppes and fine restaurants in the celebrated Old Port area near the wharves; and sixteen miles North of Kennebunkport and just one hundred yards off Maine%26#39;s scenic Route 9. .

It%26#39;s about 75 miles to Laconia.

Ogunquit is beautiful. A quaint downtown, one of the most beautiful beaches anywhere (Are you coming during beach weather?) and lots of very good restaraunts. There are also trolleys that you can take all over town. There are various types of accomodations --- motels, b%26amp;b%26#39;s, hotels, etc. Unfortunately, the only hotel right on the beach, the Norseman, could use an upgrade despite the fact that it is very expensive because of its location. One place I would recommnend is the Juniper Hill Motel. It is kept up very well and is walking distance to the beach and downtown.
