Martha's Vineyard, a car & July 4th week

Hello everyone,

I know I%26#39;m crazy for asking this, but what%26#39;s it like driving around on Martha%26#39;s Vineyard during the July 4th week? My mother is coming out for a vacation the week of July 4th. She%26#39;s been to Cape Cod twice, where I live, but never Martha%26#39;s Vineyard. I would love to take her to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard, but with her knee, she%26#39;s had an operation done on it, I%26#39;m affraid of not taking the car. I know, by reading the Vineyard%26#39;s Chamber of Commerce website, that there are park and rides just outside of the different villages. With that in mind, is it worth taking the car for a day trip to the Vineyard during the July 4th week? I%26#39;m thinking of going on either the day before or the day after July 4th (July 3 or July 5th). Or, should I wait and take her another time?

It%26#39;s probably not worth it for four days, and, if you haven%26#39;t already made reservations, may not even be a possiblity around the fourth of July.
