What is the traffic like on Cape Cod during Memorial Day weekend? I know if isn%26#39;t high season yet, but it is a holiday weekend, so I expect some, but is it really a pain to drive around?
We are staying in Hyannis, but want to drive out to P-town and/or Chatham during the day on Sunday and/or Monday (staying until Wed., but going to Nantucket on Tues.).
Any suggestions as to timing would be helpful.

Traffic on the Cape is not like traffic near any urbane area. There simply are not as many cars on the road and if you stay off the main roads, Rt. 6 and Rt. 28 you might be surprised at the relative lack of traffic even in May. You will find it busy in Hyannis no matter what time of year you are there and if it is a rainy day on a holiday weekend everyone will be on the road going to Chatham or Provincetown. With that said, just relax and don%26#39;t rush around. Don%26#39;t drive like a maniac in the passing lane, especially on Rt. 6 in Eastham, since that is the lane that everyone taking left-hand turns are in. Take a few back roads and explore. Stop to smell the roses. The magic of the Cape is the way it makes your foot come off the accelerator...just be prepared...you may never want to return to the ';rat race'; over the bridge!
