Parking in Boston?!? HELP!

Hello...

I just booked the Millennium Bostonian Hotel through Priceline and won the bid for $125 per night. Really great, considering the nights my hubby and I will be there averaged $269 thru the hotel%26#39;s website directly. Unfortunately, parking is $40 per night!!! OUCH! I understand that it is a really popular area (Faneuil Hall Marketplace) but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a place CHEAPER in that area... we will be there from a Friday night until a Sunday early afternoon and don%26#39;t plan on using the car during our stay.

That%26#39;s a fantastic deal for that hotel as it%26#39;s in a very good location to get to SO many places! If I were you I%26#39;d drop off the luggage at the hotel with the valet guy; make sure you have comfortable sneakers on and park the car down at the Pilgrim Parking lot at Fan Pier across from the Moakley Federal Courthouse, you can%26#39;t miss it, it%26#39;s just before Anthony%26#39;s Pier 4 and Boston%26#39;s World Trade Center. It%26#39;s only $18 for 24 hours. It%26#39;s actually $9 a day when you enter after 5 AM and exit before midnight, I used to park there all the time when I worked in the Financial District, many of us did that little hike every day. You might even luck out and be able to pick up the shuttle bus if it%26#39;s during the week! The thing is, it would be safe, it%26#39;s probably not a convenient walk for you from the Millennium Hotel if you have lousy weather? But what the heck, you can hop in a taxi on Sunday on the way back and be there in no time. It would still be cheaper than paying an arm and a leg for what they want in downtown Boston now for parking your car. It%26#39;s actually the best place to put it for the weekend.

Go to the Mass Port site for the list of taxis too, although your valet man at the Hotel will hail you a taxi in no time, I%26#39;m sure.

If your stay includes a weekend, you can really cheap parking at International Place - $7 a day. This is along the Greenway further south, across from Rowes Wharf (the big arch and flag).

International place sounds like a good plan. The other suggestion is further away.

The thing is? Memsteacher is arriving on Friday night. Doesn%26#39;t International Place $7 parking rates start on Saturday mornings? Maybe call to make sure, because you don%26#39;t want to be driving around like crazy on a Friday night in that area when people are trying to get out of the city.

I would double check to make sure by calling them...I know I used to park there too on a Saturday morning when we did overtime at Verizon, but the rates back then started right on Saturday mornings, unless it changed.

Definitely call %26amp; check the international rates 1st because I highly doubt the $7 rate is in affect on friday regardless of what time you arrive. The $9 lot is only slightly farther than the International and is very easy to get to.

PS - there is no longer a shuttle running from the lot since new management took over quite some time ago so you would have to walk.

The $9 lots are A LOT further than International Place and the price is really $18 (overnight is an extra $9). I believe the night rate at International Place is also $7, but you really should check because I don%26#39;t want to mislead you.

I guess it all depends on what you consider to be far. I park in that 9 dollar lot daily during the week %26amp; walk over to PO square (5 minutes from quincy market) and sometimes walk right by International place but most times I go a shorter more direct route.

Maybe I%26#39;m just used to walking around the city but to me it is not at all far. Walking from that lot all the way to quincy market takes me under 15 minutes. Walking from $9 lot to IP is like 2 minutes.

Thanks everyone for your input... I need to read thru and sort thru these posts. My husband and I will be leaving from NJ around 1 pm that Friday... Hopefully not hitting TOO much traffic. Where would I find the listing to call and check on International Place? I mapped out the Pilgrim parking and it looks far... How long of a walk is it really to the hotel?

You might think it%26#39;s too far where it%26#39;s a new City you%26#39;re exploring but to us that do this walk and have done it for years? It%26#39;s a piece of cake, don%26#39;t go by me though, you%26#39;ll have to make that decision with this one!

I would say it%26#39;s a good mile, may be a mile and a quarter from the Millennium Hotel at Haymarket Square where it%26#39;s located to the Fan Pier parking lot. There%26#39;s ways to cut it short, if you knew them it would of course make a big difference!

Well to help out a little, here%26#39;s some good directions to the International Place parking garage that is being considered:

From the North

Take Rt. 93 South to Exit 24A, Government Center

Take a left at the end of the ramp

Go through six (6) sets of lights.

International Place, consisting of two cylindrical towers, is the property on your right

The International Place garage entrance is on the right

From the South

Take Rt. 93 North to Exit 23, Government Center

Follow the Government Center/Aquarium signs (left lane)

Take a left onto Surface Road

Go through seven (7) sets of lights.

International Place, consisting of two cylindrical towers, is the property on your right

The International Place garage entrance is on the right

From Logan Airport

Use Exit 25, South Boston

Turn left after Congress Street

After the bridge, turn right onto Atlantic Avenue

Follow Atlantic Avenue past the 93 North on-ramp and take the next left (High Street/Financial District)

At the set of lights take a left

International Place, a property consisting of two cylindrical towers, is on the right after the next set of lights

From the Massachusetts Turnpike

Use Exit 24A, South Station

Proceed north on Atlantic Avenue

Follow Atlantic Avenue past the 93 North on-ramp and take your next left (High Street/Financial District)

At the set of lights take a left

From the Water Shuttle

Visitors taking the Water Shuttle from Logan Airport to Rowes Wharf should cross Atlantic Avenue and Surface Road to High Street

International Place is located in the Financial District at the corner of High Street and Oliver Street

Convenient public transportation stops are the Red Line at South Station, the Green Line at Government Center, the Orange Line at State Street and the Blue Line at State Street and Aquarium

**For the Fan Pier Parking Lot, you%26#39;d travel from the South Station complex along Atlantic Ave. and just before the Boston Harbor Hotel is located? There%26#39;s two bridges, one of them is beyond the Federal Reserve Bank building complex. Walk or drive over this bridge and the Moakley Federal Courthouse will be on the left you%26#39;ll see it right at the waterfront, you can%26#39;t miss this mega-complex, it%26#39;s all brick. Beyond this complex just on the right is the Fan Pier parking lot I was referring to.

Boston%26#39;s downtown core is very compact and easily walkable. Most major tourist attractions can be visited on foot, although visiting some neighborhoods will require rail and/or bus connections.

If, late at night, you feel you can deal neither with the cost of a taxi nor the wait involved with the MBTA, consider that Boston is a relatively small and safe city (the recent crime wave notwithstanding: it is mostly confined to neighborhoods most travelers would be unlikely to visit) and thus walking is always an option. Just remember to use the same common sense you would in any city.
