Romantic and Affordable on Nantucket?

My one-year anniversary is quickly approaching. I%26#39;d love to take my wife to nearby Nantucket (or the Vineyard) for a two- to three-day stay.

Can anyone recommend Nantucket lodging that won%26#39;t break the budget and force us to eat McDonald%26#39;s every night?

Romantic and Affordable on Nantucket?

... put it to you this way... last time I was on ';the Island'; I didn%26#39;t see any McDonalds, but I did see a shop that sold bread flown in from Paris daily. It%26#39;s not a place known for bargains...

Romantic and Affordable on Nantucket?

I realize it%26#39;s a pricey place...but there has to be inns that are more reasonable than others.

What about The White House?

Any suggestions at all...I found one place for $225/night, but that%26#39;s still more than I want to pay.

What time of year? Midweek?

The Beachside and the Harbor House often have decent deals mid-week before the Summer crush....

Personal opinion, but if you%26#39;re looking for romance, I%26#39;d bite the bullet and try for a better place, like the Sherburne Inn (high $200%26#39;s). Also, have you considered Block Island as another option?

We%26#39;re looking at the second week in July...probably 9, 10, 11 (M, T, W).

Heard anything on the Hawthorn House?

I looked at Sherburne...looks beautiful. I just assumed it was way out of my price rang. High $200s, huh? Probably a three-night minimum as well?

I guess my feeling is this: While I want the room/place to be nice, I%26#39;d rather pay more for a nice dinner or a night out. So really, I guess I%26#39;m looking for a quality inn/B%26amp;B that isn%26#39;t ridiculously expensive. Obviously I want something nice for the one-year, but I feel like just getting on the island is the key part....then again, I could be sorely mistaken.

A lot of places are going to have three night minimums in July, unless they have a two-night hole to fill. If you%26#39;re going mid-week, you may find two days a little easier, especially if you can be flexible about which days. If you%26#39;re budgeting closely, don%26#39;t forget to add a ~10% room tax to quoted rates.

Hawthorn House is a good choice. .....They have a great location,... The rate for a queen-private is reasonable at $220 and includes $9. vouchers for breakfast at Arno%26#39;s and the Evenkeel Cafe. ....The people are nice..... free wi-fi ..and you can book the room on-line at the website. Sorry there are no golden arches on Nantucket.

Cheers
