2 Nights end of June with 2 kids - Where should we stay?

We%26#39;re coming in Friday June 29 and leaving on Sunday so we%26#39;re right in the start of the 4th rush. Any suggestions on where we should stay? We%26#39;d like to be able to be close to the beach and town and we don%26#39;t want to spend a lot of money.

2 Nights end of June with 2 kids - Where should we stay?

Few places on Nantucket have their own beach, and those few are all very expensive. Your best bet is to stay in town. That%26#39;s where most of the shops and restaurants are. Unfortunately, that%26#39;s not where the beaches are. The town has a small children%26#39;s beach with a playground and no surf that%26#39;s suitable for toddlers and young children, but probably not where older (7+) kids want to go. The Jetties, another non-surf beach, is about a half mile walk from town. The other beaches are best reached by the beach shuttle buses. www.nantucket.net has maps and descriptions of the various island beaches.

You can check Trip Advisor%26#39;s hotel and B%26amp;B listings and call around. You%26#39;ll have to find a place that (a) takes children (some B%26amp;Bs don%26#39;t take children below a certain age), (b) will rent for only two nights at that time of year and (c) have an appropriate room for your family . B%26amp;Bs average around $300 a night with taxes, although you can find some less expensive. The few full-service hotels (White Elephant, Cliffside) are generally going to be quite a bit more.

Others may be able to give you more a specific recommendation.

Try the Harbor House - it is at the edge of town and close to Jetties Beach (also close to Children%26#39;s Beach, but I%26#39;d go to that for the playground, not the beach...it%26#39;s right in the harbor so not the cleanest beach.) Also try the Beachside - also a close walk to town and Jetties and from what I understand, fairly reasonable by ACK standards.

Give Harbor House and Beachside a call, but be forewarned that a lot of places - including those two - are going to have a three night minimum at that time of year, especially over a weekend. Your biggest problem is going to be finding some place that will rent for only two nights. A full service hotel like Harbor House is also going to run a good $450 a night with tax, which puts it well above the average price compared to a B%26amp;B. You%26#39;ll have to make a lot of calls.

Jersey John is right about minimum stay requirements and issues some Inns have with younger children. If you are flexible you should consider a midweek stay just before the holiday. You will find more options available to you. The ages of the children are a consideration. It%26#39;s hard to recommend a place without that info. ...I find however that the Chestnut House has a small cottage that is reasonably priced and well located in town.

I would recommend the Beachside as well; it%26#39;s a motel that is very close to Jettties beach (a good one for kids), but also within walking distance to town and it also has an outdoor pool if the ocean waters prove to be too cold! Safe Harbor Guest House on the harbor is right across from Children%26#39;s Beach (which also has a playground). These both used to be fairly reasonable and had less than 3 night minimums, but I haven%26#39;t stayed in them for quite a while.

Try the Safe Harbour Guest House. We stayed there 2 1/2 years ago with our little one. Great price and an awsome location!!!

We have stayed at the cottages of Captains Corners many times and been quite pleased. It is located a mere hop, skip and jump from childrens beach, the brant pt lighthouse and downtown. Best of all it is super reasonable!

The ambience is lacking but it is clean and comfortable and if you want to save $ this is the spot. I am a neat freak, germaphobe and I had no issues with the accomodations. They also have a small fridge and microwave in each cottage for milk, snacks etc which was very helpful.

Enjoy your stay Nantucket is a magical place : )

Captain%26#39;s Corner is unfortunately no longer an option as the house has announced on their answering machine that they are fully booked for the 2007 season ...which means the house has sold and the new owner wishes to keep their options open but not open to the public for this and maybe next years season.
