best of 3 italian restaurants

Please help. I%26#39;ve narrowed my choices to Giacomo%26#39;s, La Summa and Loconte%26#39;s. We will be dining Thursday night, June 7 (my birthday).

When is the best time to go without having to wait in long lines or is that unpredictable for a Thursday night? Do you wait hours?

Which ones take cash only?

Which ones take reservations?

Which one would you suggest?

Dessert at Mike%26#39;s or Paradiso?

Thank you.

LaSumma takes reservations, Giamcomo%26#39;s doesn%26#39;t. That would be enough for me. You could wait hours! LaSumma is very good and they take credit cards. Mike%26#39;s is good if you don%26#39;t have to wait. Otherwise, elsewhere....

Giacomo%26#39;s in the North End is cash only, no reservations and crowded inside and outside unless you arrive about 5:30 P.M. and even then you might have to wait. It is busy seven days a week. Giacomo%26#39;s in the South End on Columbus Ave. takes reservations and is less crowded.

For dessert in the North End, try Modern Pastry or Maria%26#39;s Pastry; both are excellent and as good as Mike%26#39;s in my opinion. In Park Square, Finale%26#39;s is excellent for dessert as is the Cheesecake Factory in Copley Square.

Hi Caribbean,

All three are dynamite choices. Both Lo Conte%26#39;s and La Summa take reservations. Giacomo%26#39;s, as others have stated, does not. Visit locontes.com for menu info and to make a reservation.

For dessert I%26#39;ll throw one more choice into the mix--Cafe Dello Sport. It%26#39;s on the corner of Prince and Hanover.

And..if you%26#39;re looking for a pre- or post-dinner drink check out Fiore%26#39;s on the Cross Street end of Hanover Street. They have the coolest roofdeck around.

Another vote for La Summa--of course!

Healy--what%26#39;s the address for LoConte%26#39;s?

Sue,

114-116 Salem Street.

While Giacomo%26#39;s is excellent, it%26#39;s inconvenient because of the cash only and no reservations policy.

Go with La Summa and make a reservation.

Modern and Maria%26#39;s are both excellent choices, but I believe only Mike%26#39;s has coffee and tables too, for you to sit down. Cafe Paradiso has OK desserts, and decent coffee, and you%26#39;d be more likely to be able to get a seat there. It depends on what you are more interested in...the best pastry, or just having more time to relax over a latte and a piece of cake.

If you were speaking about the food at the 3 restaurants (forgetting about cash only, reservations, etc) which of the 3 has the best food??

La Summa is very good.

Lopo,

I have yet to hit La Summa--but the ubiquitous AlanM and Sue Fee have agreed to pick up my tab when I do--(just kidding guys)--so I can only pick between Giacomo%26#39;s and Lo Conte%26#39;s.

My pick? A resounding vote for Lo Conte%26#39;s!
