Boston in February?

I am thinking of visiting Boston for the first time in early February for 3 or 4 nights. I have been to New York in early February and it was freezing! I know Boston will be just as cold (maybe colder!) but how different will the weather be? Do you reccomend Boston in February?

I would NOT recommend visiting Boston in February, unless you like very cold weather and/or the possibility of blizzard conditions. Some people like to walk in the cold---I enjoy a brisk walk, but there are days here that are just really too cold for me to enjoy. Boston is a walking city; do you really want to walk braced against the wind and/or snow?

Yes, we did have a mild winter and relatively little snow last year, but all told, February is still not the best month to come here. Boston is at its best Spring through Fall.

DC is cold in February too, but their climate is a little better than ours. It%26#39;s nippy, but not usually unbearable. You might try going there or if you can checking out Arizona or Florida or someplace warm. If you%26#39;re set on Boston, I%26#39;d wait til April at least.

If you don%26#39;t mind New York in February, you won%26#39;t mind Boston either. The key would be to focus on indoor things, like museums, and Boston has many great ones. If you really want to be able to stroll around comfortably, you might think of delaying your trip until the spring!

I agree you better of waiting to the spring,cant do much in Feb without freezing.

Early February is usually the coldest time of year here. If you were unhappy with the weather in NYC at that time, you will hate it in Boston.

Especially for someone who%26#39;s never been here before, Boston really shines in the warmer months (May-October). If it%26#39;s possible for you to move your trip, I%26#39;d strongly urge you to do it.

Well you%26#39;ve been to New York in February, so the only information I can give you is that Boston is usually slightly colder than New York in winter. If you like New York in February, maybe you%26#39;ll like Boston. If you thought New York was too cold, I%26#39;d postpone a Boston visit until warmer weather.

So much of what brings tourists to Boston is out-of-doors.

Boston is gorgeous in the Spring (second or third week in May.) Can you wait until then?

I agree it%26#39;s not the ideal time to visit, but I%26#39;ve always found there to be a charm to a snowy day in Boston-- not that snow is at all guaranteed. The good thing since it%26#39;s a smaller city you can get in and out fairly quickly, or just layer up and you can stay out as you want! The outdoor ice skating rink on the Boston Common is a winter must, very neat.

I wouldn%26#39;t however recommend more than a couple days in winter, since you won%26#39;t want to do as much walking around, and some boat tours and such will be off the list, I%26#39;d plan on a shorter visit.

You could also combine a city stay with a few days of skiing up in New Hampshire or Vermont, although you would have to drive to get up to those.

I love New Hampshire%26#39;s White Mountains in the winter, and lodging is cheaper than the city. You can go downhill or cross country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, hiking, snowmobiling, or even ice climbing- they know how to do winter right!
