also, not interested in the duck ride or fenway, would love to see a game (not possible, as they are playing at night), but not interested in the tour
also, considering arriving at 10am instead of 12pm
layover
Well you can go downtown its not that far in fact a lot of people who have layovers do that ,or go to the Aquarium, you can spend about 3 hours and have plenty of time.
should i take a taxi? train?
on the way in i guess its not so important, but if i want to be at the airport at 5pm, which is better? what time should i leave downtown?
The Blue Line of the ';T'; goes to the airport. Well, technically it goes to ';Airport Station'; where you can catch free Massport shuttle buses to all airline terminals. It%26#39;s all very speedy.
You can take the blue line, see mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/subway/lines/鈥?/a> to the Aquarium or to the Quincy Market/Fanuel Hall area where you can kill several hours shopping, eating, drinking, people watching. If you feel like walking you could walk up into the North End, which I found much more interesting than NY%26#39;s Little Italy. It%26#39;s an easy stroll and along the way from Quincy Market to the North End you can walk thru the open air New England Holocaust Memorial see http://www.nehm.org/ Not a museum, but a simple collection of six glass towers each representing a notorious Nazi death camp
IF you want to be at the airport at 5pm, it%26#39;s one of those things---you could leave plenty of time and need every minute of it (because of traffic jams or T slowdowns, disabled trains, etc.) or you could zip over there in 15-20 minutes from Government Center.
A lot depends on where in boston you%26#39;re located. If you%26#39;re at the Aquarium, that%26#39;s much closer than Copley Square. Cabs are most affected by traffic. The T can run slow, but if I were in your shoes, I%26#39;d take the T and figure on leaving Copley Square at 4:15; Harvard Square at 4pm and if I were on the waterfront, I%26#39;d take the water taxi, which zips you right over there---which is a pretty ride.
You could have a nice, enjoyable time if you got here at 10 instead of noon and took the T to Park Street, walked through the Common, Beacon Hill, Public Garden. You could stop for lunch somewhere on Newbury Street or walk/take the train to Faneuil Hall for lunch and spend the afternoon wandering around the waterfront and if there%26#39;s time, maybe wander into the North End to get cannoli and cappuccino at Mike%26#39;s Pastry. (A lot depends on your pace and interest level in the various sights.) You could hop a water taxi sometime after 4pm, depending on their schedule.
