Thinking of going to Boston and Cape Cod in Sept, wondering if some restaurants and hotels will be closed as end of summer ?

If we were to go early Sept instead what will the weather be like ( I know it is difficult with global warming ) will be summer wear or more Fall wear

It will be more like summer, though you should take a jacket or sweatshirt for the cool days that sometimes occur even during summer months. Few places are closed in September. It%26#39;s a great time to go, as you%26#39;ll miss the crowds but should have lovely weather.

Agreed. But even in summer you should take a windbreaker, as the sea breezes and night air can be cool.

This year Labor Day lands on Monday September 3rd and lots of things will shut down for season that day as schools start back up around that time. But you’ll find most things are still open.

Generally speaking it’s still warm enough to enjoy those last bits of summer and (post Labor Day) you don’t have to worry about beach stickers, parking fees or a ton of kids running around while you do it. In fact I’d say it’s my favorite time to go – for the past several years I’ve been renting a cabin that last week of Aug. first week of Sept. in the more remote areas of the Outer Cape and I wouldn’t go any other time.

As far clothing is concerned I generally bring a hooded, zip-up sweatshirt and a pair of long pants along with my regular summer wardrobe. Some years I use that sweat shirt every day and some years I never touch it. Last year I didn’t bring socks and ended up regretting it on a couple of cooler, rainy days. You never really know but, generally speaking, I think it’s a great time to plan a trip.

September is an excellent time to go. The weather on Cape Cod in September and October can be warmer than the mainland. (In April and May it is usually cooler.) Almost all cape restaurants stay open late into October at least. There are a small number that close immediately after our Labor Day, the first Monday in September, but they are mostly fast food places that depend on heavy traffic and fast turnover. Any place worth eating at will be open. The same is true of accommodations. You should have a big choice of places to stay.

September and October are two of the best months to visit Cape Cod. You will find everything still open well into October with each town having its own festival on different weekends. The cape used to be more seasonal and, as the previous poster mentioned, although some of the fast food places and clam shacks do close in early September, you will not have any problem finding great food. The outer cape is in full swing in September because people in-the-know understand that it is less crowded, still summer-like and more relaxed. I always bring my summer cloths when we visit in September but socks and a windbreaker get added to the mix for bonfires on the beach at night. Oh and by the way...you will still have to pay for parking at the National Seashore beaches on weekends until Columbus Day in October because that is officially the beginning of the ';off-season'; for the park and many lodging establishments.
