Where would we rent bicycles in Falmouth? Where is the best price for ferry rides to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard?
We want to see the Red Sox - but refuse to pay the exhorbitant prices they%26#39;re quoting on their website. I read where someone got tickets for $12 -- that was long before Dice-K, right? Even here in Florida where they play for spring training, they%26#39;ve raised the prices enough to keep the working people out. I guess somebody has to pay.

Can%26#39;t help you on the bike rental, but here is the web site for the Martha%26#39;s Vineyard Ferry, which will have all the locations and prices. As far as Red Sox tickets for $12.00 that is a rarity. Don%26#39;t get me wrong, you could probably buy seats for that price, if the entire season wasn%26#39;t pretty much completely sold out and if the season wasn%26#39;t sold out, there are only a very small number of tickets at that price. Fenway Park, by far has the most expensive prices in MLB. If you want tickets for this season, you probably should go throught a reputable ticket agent, who also charge high prices. Or you could take a shot at buying tickets outside the park the day of, which I wouldn%26#39;t reccomend. The Boston police have been cracking down on scalpers lately and there%26#39;s no guarantee you%26#39;ll even get tickets and they are also ridiculously overpriced. Good Luck

Bike Rental in Falmouth- Corner Cycle www.cornercycle.com on Queens Buyway or Holiday Cycles on Grand Ave. 508-540-3549 or Art%26#39;s Bikes www.artsbikeshop.com in North Falmouth. There was another bike shop in town, Bike Zone on Teaticket Highway, but I don%26#39;t think they rented bikes and they have recently vacated the building where they were.
Ferry to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard- Island Queen islandqueen.com. Check the return schedule, they shut down for the day in the early evening. If you%26#39;re going to ride your bikes to the ferry, this will not apply as much, but the Woods Hole ferry is going to be a headache for parking. Most likely you will have to park off-site and take a shuttle bus. Sometimes in the height of the summer, the sign on the way to Woods Hole will read ';all lots full'; in which case you%26#39;re SOL. The Island queen will get you there faster, cheaper and with fewer headaches (generally none at all). One more way to get to Martha%26#39;s Vineyard, check patriotpartyboats.com, water shuttle. They, too, shut down kind of early, but it%26#39;s worth a look. They will be a no-hassle and cheaper trip as well.
When all is said and done, the Island Queen is the best way to get you there and back.
I agree it%26#39;s too bad that a good clean family activity like a baseball game is over the top expensive. Corporate America at it%26#39;s finest. If you really have your heart set on the Sox, I%26#39;m sorry, I can%26#39;t help. A couple of alternatives if you just want to see a baseball game, the Pawtucket Red Sox (the Red Sox triple-A team) or the Cape Cod Baseball League (college players) www.capecodbaseball.org. Many of the Cape Cod Baseball players really do go on to the major league.
Check the Town of Falmouth web site http://www.town.falmouth.ma.us/index.php There%26#39;s a link for visitors that has a lot of stuff.

Thanks so much for your input. I%26#39;ve been researching all the links and ideas and can%26#39;t wait for the trip.
Do we have any experts on mass transit into Boston? I think the closest link to Falmouth (bus, T, or train?) is Middleborough/ Lakeville, or, a more scenic route to Plymouth. But once I get there, I%26#39;m not sure what is available at each station. I%26#39;ve read about Charlie Cards and Charlie Tickets.
But heh, I%26#39;ve navigated the Euro Rail in Britain. I%26#39;m sure it won%26#39;t be that difficult. Once I drive to either station, will I pay for parking again while I travel the rail or subway?
Ah, I love taking on the public transit questions (I am car-less here in Boston).
Are you planning to drive to the commuter rail (Plymouth or Middleborough), or do you need to get there another way? I don%26#39;t know that there is an MBTA bus from those stops to Cape Cod -- the MBTA generally doesn%26#39;t go that far south as far as I know.
I%26#39;m not as familiar with Falmouth, but there is a bus that runs from several places in Falmouth to Hyannis (see: http://capecodtransit.org/ and click on the ';blue line -- sealine service';). The bus from Hyannis to Boston runs quite a few times per day (Plymouth %26amp; Brockton is the company: see www.p-b.com) and takes about 3 hours.
You could also take ';The Breeze'; Cape Cod bus from Falmouth to Provincetown and then take the ferry, but that is more expensive. The Cape Cod bus is $1. The Hyannis-Boston bus costs $17 one-way; the ferry is $19 for the slow one, or $44 for the high-speed (which takes 90 min to Boston).
The final option I can think of is you could take a bus from Hyannis to Plymouth or Kingston (also www.p-b.com) and then catch the commuter rail. The bus from Hyannis to Plymouth is $6, (to Kingston also $6) and the commuter rail to Boston would be $7.75. But, you%26#39;d have to do some investigating to see if the P%26amp;B bus would drop you near the commuter rail stations in those towns, and plan the schedule more carefully (e.g., the commuter rail doesn%26#39;t run to Plymouth that often -- see www.mbta.com).
If it were me, I%26#39;d just take the Hyannis-Boston route, or the ferry if money wasn%26#39;t a huge issue -- the boat ride is nice.
Public transit from the Cape- also Peter Pan Bus. http://www.peterpanbus.com/
Serves Bourne, Hyannis, Falmouth, Woods Hole
I love this! Why spend hours of researching google and travel websites, when I can ask the experts that have experienced what I want to experience?!? Thank you all for your advice; I%26#39;m printing everything to take in my travel bag.
Next question: where is the closest Super Walmart or Super KMart (from Falmouth) to buy groceries/souvenirs for the week?
There is no WalMart or Kmart for a full grocery shop. There is a Walmart in Falmouth, but for foodstuffs, they have only dry goods; no meat or produce or dairy, except maybe milk and butter.
There are two grocery stores in town, Stop and Shop (intersection of Jones Road and Davis Straits/Rte 28) and Shaw%26#39;s (Falmouth Mall, off Worcester Court) and are within a half-mile of each other. There is also Windfall Market on Scranton Ave. off Main Street which is nice. It%26#39;s more than a convenience store, but not as big as a supermarket. You%26#39;ll be able to get everything you need at Windfall. They also sell beer and wine, unlike Stop and Shop or Shaw%26#39;s. (State law.) Wal-Mart is also in the Falmouth Mall with Shaw%26#39;s.
Souvenir shopping...just about everywhere. Try Christmas Tree Shop on Davis Strait/Rte 28. It%26#39;s in the Falmouth Plaza near Staples and Friendly%26#39;s Ice Cream. Aisles and aisles of schlock. Also, in my opinion, one of the best original souvenir shops around is Uncle Bill%26#39;s Country Store in North Falmouth. It%26#39;s part of The Silver Lounge restaurant which has been a neighborhood favorite for fifty years. From Falmouth, head north on Rte. 28 toward Boston. Get off at Thomas Landers Road, turn left (west) on Landers Road. After a quarter-mile, turn right (north) on Rte 28A. About a half-mile AFTER the North Falmouth Rotary, look for the red dory out front and sign for The Silver Lounge on the left. Great place for lunch/dinner/souvenir shopping. Should not be missed! Also close to Old Silver Beach.
If you%26#39;d like more specific directions to any of the above, give me a starting point, and I%26#39;ll send them. highseasharry@yahoo.com

P.S. About bus service from Logan Airport. If you%26#39;re going to catch the bus from Logan, first, the time printed in the schedule is the time that the bus makes its first stop at terminal A. If you%26#39;re watching your watch, and think you%26#39;ve missed it or it%26#39;s not coming, be patient. It%26#39;s making several pickups. Second, the Mass Port Authority which operates Logan Airport charges everyone that comes on the property a premium for doing so. If you%26#39;re on a tight budget and not carrying a lot of luggage, it might be cheaper to take the MBTA subway Silver Line direct to South Station and meet the same bus there. I%26#39;ll be the first to admit it adds another connection and might not be worth your while when on vacation, but it is an option.
