Captain's House

I didn%26#39;t see this place on the list but stay there anyway! It is ridiculously inexpensive for a beautiful home perched on the edge of the rocks overlooking a little island that is a bird sanctuary and with a direct view to the island with the two old light houses. Can we say, ';hidden treasure?'; I only had a one night get-away but would love to spend a week sunning on the lawn and sitting on that porch just vegging out. I would even stay in the oddly shaped room that has two twin beds and a bath in the hall (super bargain priced) since I wouldn%26#39;t be in the room much. The B%26amp;B has a delightful new manager, Sue, and the web site is in transition but if you want clean, comfortable, and stunning views you must stay here! www.captainshouse.com

Captain's House

Your timing was great in posting your message! I happened upon the Captain%26#39;s House last Monday while enjoying Rockport and the weather (and the Patriot%26#39;s Day work holiday.) One of the owners happened to be gardening, so he and I chatted for a good fifteen minutes or so. The place changed hands last year, but he said bookings were already ';well ahead'; of %26#39;04.

The building is interesting in that it%26#39;s not clapboard or shingled like a lot of New England houses. It%26#39;s all white and appears to be stucco, with several chimneys. As RIresident mentioned, the view is unobstructed and delightful from there. Getting to Bearskin Neck and the art galleries is a bit of a hike, but the owner said he%26#39;s always glad to run a courtesy shuttle into town or to the train station. Not that Rockport has any night life to begin with, but the location of the Captain%26#39;s House is excellent for its quietness. It%26#39;s on a small residential street that winds along the oceanfront, almost directly opposite the entrance to a nature preserve.

Rockport is fantastic for even a restful day trip, but if you want to stay over I%26#39;d say to definitely give the Captain%26#39;s House some thought. I hope RIres has written a review on Trip Advisor for it.

Captain's House

We have just spent three nights there last week - just picked it off the internet so we were delighted with the location - the sound of the waves so close, and the standard of the bedroom. I think these owners have now been in situ 18 months to two years and have obviously been doing a lot to the place. All the bedrooms are a delight, each with their own character. We had no 2 overlooking the ocean at the back of the house, beautiful linen, blankets rather than duvet and a great bathroom next door with all the original features.

A good breakfast each day was available buffet style, plenty of room to relax, and we just wished that we had had longer to stay there.
