Flying into Boston Airport

We are flying into Boston Airport in Oct. and renting a car to drive to Maine. My Husband doesn%26#39;t have much for patience driving in a big city. Could anyone give us great directions on the easiest way to get from the airport to Hwy 95 going to Maine? Would very much appreciate and information on the subject.

Flying into Boston Airport

Hi,

It%26#39;s pretty easy. Depending on when you arrive, it%26#39;s the traffic that will be the biggest concern.

From the Airport, just follow signs for I-93 Northbound. You might also see signs for the Ted Williams Tunnel or the Sumner Tunnel/Downtown Boston. Either tunnel will take you to I-93. Take I-93 north until you see signs for I-95 North (roughly 10 miles north of downtown Boston). Then, just follow I-95 North into Maine.

Thank you so much for your response. We will be arriving on Sat. Oct. 6th at around 10:30 am. Then rental car desk. So probably looking at 11:00am.

At that time, you should have no issues at all. Just be aware that the tunnel toll is $3, so you don%26#39;t go into shock or anything. It%26#39;s ';free'; on the way back, if that%26#39;s any consolation.

Beantown man is right. It%26#39;s not that difficult---but I%26#39;d recommend studying a map before you start driving, just so you have a good idea of where you want to be (and where you don%26#39;t want to be).

If it%26#39;s rush hour, avoid the Ted Williams, because it takes you south of the city first (which means snaking back up through the city when it%26#39;s crowded). Follow signs for the Sumner/Callahan tunnels, which put you north of the city. If you end up in the Ted Williams, no big deal, just follow signs north. If you go via the Williams tunnel, DON';T be on the left and end up on the Mass Pike. That%26#39;s one mistake that can cost you alot of time and aggravation (not to mention some toll money).

One thing to realize is that the airport is the worst of it. The traffic whizzes around and you have to watch the signs, but I%26#39;ve found that to be the case at a lot of airports however big the city. Once you get on the right track, you%26#39;ll be fine.

If you want to stop to eat or rest or whatever, Rt. 1 is a good alternative. It%26#39;s lined with stores and restaurants and it%26#39;s a slower road, but the traffic can be bad there too.

Thanks again for all the info. My husband will be eternally grateful. I%26#39;m hoping we can get a small map from the rental car desk and they can at least get us out of the airport traffic. We are going to be taking Route 1 on the way back to the airport the next Sat. Also, hope it won%26#39;t be too hard driving in.

Very easy traffic should not be a issue since your doing your traveling on Saturdays.
