Just returned from Menemsha. The beach at sunset is incredible. People come around 6:00 with dinners and chairs and wait for the sunset. You can purchase a lobster dinner fresh from the tanks at the fish stores that are near the beach. (BYOB) The crowd, including children, is mellow; and the beach is not overly crowded. The sunset is spectacular.

Did you stay in Menemsha? If so, would be grateful for feedback on whether you recommend staying there or just visiting for sunset and, if recommend staying there, places to stay. Thanks!
Menemsha Beach at sunset
I did stay in Menemsha. I wrote a review of the Menemsha Inn which was beautiful on the outside, but left much to be desired on the inside in a number of ways. (see what I wrote.)
I want to go back to the Vineyard next year, but unless I read about change of mangement or policy at the Inn, I won%26#39;t return there. There are some nice places in Chilmark, also Aquinnah. Check out hotels etc. here. The other end of the island is very crowded.
As the owner of the MENEMSHA INN AND COTTAGES I am pleased that you thought Menemsha Beach was incredible and that our historic hotel was great from the outside. However I was disturbed to read that your stay was not satisfactory. As of last week the Inn is under new, highly experienced, management and I hope you will consider staying with us again next season. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised by all the improvements.
Hello
I must apologize for your unpleasant experience at the Menemsha Inn last season. It was a very difficult season for all of our employees. Unfortunately our hard working staff did not have the support of the corporate owners and as a result the guest experience suffered. I take full blame for those shortcomings and am truly sorry for your displeasure. As you can imagine I and others whom have left the inn truly loved the property and the hospitality business.....however.....corporate policy has no interest in those emotions....again ...on behalf of the former staff of the Inn please accept our apology.

Hi,
I was confused after reading your post since the posts preceding yours were from a year or two ago.
I too am going to the Menemsha area in July. We are looking forwarded to the sunset experience on Menemsha Beach. We will be staying at the Menemsha Inn, and I really hope that we are not disappointed in our choice.
I had a difficult time making my decision, and hope that I made the right one.
