My husband and I just returned from a 6 day stay in Boston. I used this board to get ideas, and I thought those of you planning a trip might be interested in , at the Hampton Inn. We used HH points, but would stay there again for the the value. It is not located right in Boston, but it is across the street from the T, so it is very easy access into the city. Great rooms and comfy beds.
We spent the first 2 days in Boston and did the following: A 90 minutes walking tour each day, The Duck Tour, Quincy Market, Fanueill Square, Bought canoli%26#39;s at Modern Bakery (they fill them when you order them, delicious!). Saw the Holocaust Memorial (very moving). Drank a beer at Cheers. In the evening we saw the Blue Man group. Fun show. Then had dinner at Legal Seafood near the theater. The second night we saw ';A Present Laughter'; (cheap seats, $15.00) at the Huntington Theater. The third day, we took the commuter train to Gloucester. Nice little town, but would not go back. Someone in Gloucester, suggested going to Rockport, which was just one stop further north, so we got back on the train, and went to Rockport. This is a lovely seaside village with cute shops, galleries, restaurants, and views of the ocean. Stop at the visitors bureau for suggestions. They were very friendly. On the fourth day we rented a car from Enterprise, and drove south to Newport RI. This is a beautiful little town, with magnificant mansions.
On our fifth and final day we went to the JFK Library and Museum. It was wonderful. We then went to an exhibit of Edward Hopper at the Museum of Fine Arts. We took a harbor cruise and watched them fire a cannon from the USS Consitition, and then had dinner at Legal Seafood. (We ate there twice during our stay. Once at each location.) We left for the airport on the the sixth day. We had a wondeful time, and just wanted to share our experience other travellers on this board.
Great 6 day itinerary...Thanks TA!
WOW Joytotravel, you covered a LOT in five days, good for you! I%26#39;m glad you got to Legal Seafoods and SO glad you were able to do a harbor cruise. It%26#39;s a beautiful time of year to visit Boston. What%26#39;s up with Gloucester; you guys wouldn%26#39;t go back? That%26#39;s too bad, but I think if any one is reading this, if you cruised the coast along there with a car you%26#39;d have a better time. Rockport is ideal from the commuter train. It%26#39;s right there and so aren%26#39;t all the shops %26amp; restaurants. It%26#39;s absolutely a lovely seaside village with really neat shops, galleries and like you said, incredible views of the ocean. That was also good that you even got to Newport, RI too! Good for you. What a nice trip you had. You saw more in a week than I did in all my years living here. To do all of that? For me, this all would have been a summer long ordeal just to plan it all and to get it organized for the different day trips with all the different people I know that would join me for it.
I know this will be valuable information for any one tryng to do up an itinerary; when they%26#39;re visiting. Thanks again, it%26#39;s a very good plan for a 5 day or a week stay in Boston, you covered a lot of territory and all the good spots too!
Great 6 day itinerary...Thanks TA!
Boy thats a great TR you did a lot of exploring in 5 days thats very good glad you enjoyed your stay.
Thanks for your input. I really like it when TA%26#39;s post their return comments. I%26#39;m headed to Boston the last week of July. I%26#39;ve got to get the canoli%26#39;s! Duck Tour.,Quincy Mkt ., etc sounds like what I was planning while there. That confirms it.
I was looking for an alternative to Cape Cod/Nantucket as I though July would be too crowded. i think we%26#39;ll try Gloucester/Rockport on the commuter train. My son lives in Somerville and works in a pub River Gods), so I think the Irish pub scene will be well covered (I have a feeling it won%26#39;t be Cheers...) Appreciate your input.
