Seeking downtown hotel opinion (no perfect answer expected)

I%26#39;m researching Trip Advisor for a hotel in downtown Minneapolis; just one Wednesday night to attend a show at First Avenue. I can reserve the Residence Inn Downtown (at 45 S. 8th Street, not the Depot) for a great Senior rate of $101. However, I%26#39;m tempted by the reviews (and #1 rating) for the new Hotel Minneapolis--a Doubletree Hotel, at 215 S. 4th Street; unfortunately, the best rate at the Hotel Minneapolis is $170. Preferring quiet, safety, and ambience, and not desiring loud and hip, would I be better off saving $70 at the Residence Inn, or is the Hotel Minneapolis really that good? I know there%26#39;s no correct answer, but I%26#39;d appreciate any insider opinion. I am one senior male traveler, and I do realize that the First Avenue venue is closer to the Residence Inn than the Hotel Minneapolis.

After having dinner at restaurant Max in the Hotel Minneapolis the front desk offered my friends and I a hot chocolate chip cookie and a tour of the rooms. The rooms are very nice, but not huge. Pretty standard sized, but nicely appointed. The hotel seemed quiet. The staff was very friendly. I can%26#39;t comment on the Residence Inn, but I suspect the rooms might be more suite sized. The reviews of both places are decent, so you can%26#39;t go wrong with either for one night. I enjoyed seeing the Hotel Minneapolis and thought it had a nice vibe. If I didn%26#39;t live nearby I would enjoy staying there.

It is getting good reviews, but if just one night, I%26#39;d say save your $$ and stay at the Residence Inn. As you%26#39;ve mentioned, it is closer to First Ave.

One of our new co-workers stayed at Residence Inn for 3 weeks while she was relocating here, and several of us would join her for the ';manager%26#39;s reception'; at night - snax and drinks on the house.

I also would do the Residence Inn, for the sake of proximity. There%26#39;s something to be said for walking out the front door of the hotel and knowing you can walk to your destination in under 5 minutes.

And it%26#39;s a good hotel, and that%26#39;s a very good rate for downtown Mpls. I%26#39;d save the $70 and have a few extra drinks.
