downtown minneapolis restaurants

My husband %26amp; I will be going to mpls this week-end and staying at the Marriott City Center. We would like to know of a good restaurant that is close by so we could walk. Any recommendations???

In that location you have dozens of options in walking distance. What does the dinner budget look like and are there types of food you guys like more than others?

We are looking for a restaurant in a moderate price range. As far a type of food we are very open and like most anything. It would would be nice to go somewhere not to noisy and somewhat private. We are going to the Reba concert at 8pm so somewhere closer to the Target Center would be good. Hope you can help us. Thanks!!!

The link above contains a map of downtown Minneapolis to show you where your hotel is in relation to a few places I%26#39;ll mention. That will tell you if that is walking distance to you. Go to the downtown map, which is in PDF format. It%26#39;s not entirely updated (has restaurants on there that no longer exist, like Tiburon, for example) but is still helpful.

First thing I%26#39;d do is establish what time you want to eat. Probably around 6 for a 8 p.m. show, I%26#39;d think. I would give 112 Eatery a call to see if you can make a reservation. This close to the date will be tough, but at 6 p.m. you might be able to beat the 7 p.m. rush. 612-343-7693.

I still think it%26#39;s the best restaurant downtown for the price, which is very moderate. Excellent atmosphere -- small, cozy. But it is usually a tough reservation, although it%26#39;s been awhile since the rule was 3 months in advance. Worth a try, for sure.

Also, that is 5 blocks from your hotel (it%26#39;s at 1st Avenue North and 3rd Street). That%26#39;s walking distance to me but maybe not you. You could always walk there and arrange for a taxi ($5) to take you to the concert.

Next up I%26#39;d say Cafe Havana (Cuban). I have never had a bad experience there. A little louder than 112, but still a nice experience and moderate price.

Shortly longer walk, at Washington Avenue and 1st Ave North (you can see it listed on map). about 6 blocks.

Those are the best recommendations to me. I can think of some more if those don%26#39;t fit what you are looking for.

I would second the recommendation for 112 Eatery. If you can show up at 5 when they open, you should be able to at least sit at the bar.

I%26#39;d also recommend Solera, great tapas, drinks %26amp; atmosphere, don%26#39;t order the paella. It is a small plates menu.

Then Palomino is always a good fall back, I love going there

Reservations are recommended for all of these.

Regretfully, Cafe Havana is closed. It was one of my favourates.

Maybe consider BellaNotte in Block E -

Yeah - it%26#39;s not that far - I could walk to Cafe Havana.

Funny.. I remember YEARS ago when it was just a lil%26#39; sandwich shop in Seven Corners.

When they moved into their new digs - it was a big deal.

Dinners on Fri/Sat nights included live Cuban music, mojitos in the bar, and a cigar or two after your meal, when you could smoke inside.

I%26#39;d been at many of partys / b-days, etc. in the back room. A great place.

I%26#39;ve heard they may try to re-open again, per Downtown Journal.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I%26#39;m going to try to get reservations at the 112 Eatery. It won%26#39;t be too far for us to walk. Hopefully the weather will clear by Friday. Oh well, rain is better than snow!!! If 112 doesn%26#39;t work I%26#39;ll will look at other suggestions. Thanks again.

Hey DowntownMinneapolis,

I wonder if you read about the change of ownership at Town Talk. I was said to hear it. They kept on the owner, so I%26#39;m hoping that helps continuity. But I seem to recall you like the place (as do I). Not too far from me, about 15 blocks. So I%26#39;ve been there a good 7-8 times, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
