After 4 visits, over the past 10 yrs, we are now one-month residents of Clarksdale (after residing in central PA). Here are my educated/uneducated/opinionated views:
The people: incredibly welcoming %26amp; warm, lots of personality to the ';characters'; here!
Lodgings: Riverside Hotel - Rat is a walking historian of Clarksdale but I wouldn%26#39;t stay at the hotel - it%26#39;s kind of shabby (sorry, I don%26#39;t call it ';rustic';) %26amp; I%26#39;m too old for shared bathrooms!
Shack-Up Inn - really cool!
Comfort Inn - has really gone down-hill since we first stayed there 10 yrs. ago
Restaurants: Ranchero - mediocre
Atzima (Mexican) - very good, reasonably priced
Madidi%26#39;s - nice atmosphere, expensive, I can cook just as well!
Abe%26#39;s - no atmosphere but the food%26#39;s great
Resthaven - owned by Lebanese, wonderful cabbage rolls
Delta Amusement - very red-neck (still freely using
the ';n word';)
Ground Zero - we haven%26#39;t eaten there but I haven%26#39;t heard positive reports about either the food or service
Entertainment: The Music - great %26amp; frequent (lots of really talented locals around here) Ground Zero - this is NOT a juke joint but they do have good acts there
Red%26#39;s Lounge - a definate juke joint - shabby, good music - don%26#39;t let Red scare you off! (one of
those ';all bark, no bite'; people - he%26#39;s one of our best friends!)

Clarksdale - An edited review
BluesKitten,
I enjoyed your report. Thanks for posting.
We were just in Clarksdale in August for the Sunflower Blues and Gospel Festival. We had a great time and will probabbly be back next year.
You should try the Fried Green Tomatoes at Ground Zero. They really are good. The service there IS slow but friendly.
Hopefully next year we can make it to Red%26#39;s Lounge.
Gotta love the Delta and the Blues!
