There%26#39;s numerous of things to consider, especially moving internationally.

If it was me, I%26#39;d want to rely on professional advise, vs a travel web forum.

I could give you, if you%26#39;d like, a list of Twin Cities real estate websites and you could build a relationship with an agent of your choosing.

Hi! I think you %26amp; your family will love living in the Minneapolis area. I suggest not moving to the country, however. There are many really nice close-in suburbs and large homes %26amp; lots in the city that offer far more culture %26amp; diversity. With a teenager, you%26#39;d hate to be living in the boonies %26amp; have him or her feel it%26#39;s hard to be new or different. A lot of those kids are 3rd generation townies. I personally suggest Golden Valley. Which is about 10 mins. west of downtown Mpls. with excellent freeway access to just about any where. The Hopkins School District serves a part of Golden Valley %26amp; the schools %26amp; district are excellent. We moved here several years ago from out of state %26amp; had no trouble assimilating. The people are friendly %26amp; there is a lot of diversity, many interesting and well-educated people and a wonderful park %26amp; recreation system. There are many sporting and arts opportunities for your children. The homes range from modest to very high-end and the property lots are large. Good luck to you!

If anywhere in the area works for you it is a lot easier to be in or near the country on the east side (east of St. Paul) than the west side. Travel into either city is easier from the east. Don%26#39;t expect much in the way of public transport such as a rail system so travel by car is necessary most of the time. At least gas is a lot less expensive here that Denmark.

There are some great country areas from Woodbury (out by Afton anyway) down to Hastings that are very nice yet only 20-30Km from downtown St. Paul. We have farms a couple blocks from our house yet are a 20 minute drive to downtown. For that matter just south of Afton is Denmark Township ( http://www.denmarktownship.org/ ) how about that?

One question to ask is where you plan to work? This makes a big difference, since commuting from one side of the city to the other can be a pain. If you work in the St. Paul area, you probably want to stick with a St. Paul suburb, and same goes for Minneapolis. The area is absolutely beautiful and one of the few cities that emphasize green areas and parks, bike paths, etc. That goes for the entire metro area. Here is a website that discusses neighborhoods, that you might find some help, but spending time with an agent is probably best.
